About the job

Automation technician apprentice at BIRN

Do you like to twist things, figure out why they don’t work - and would you like to learn how automated machines and production plants work? Then we might have the apprenticeship for you.

At BIRN we are seeking an automation technician apprentice who wants to become part of our maintenance team and learn the trade in one of Northern Europe’s largest foundry groups.

At BIRN you won’t have an apprenticeship where you only sit in front of a screen. You will use both your head and your hands. You will be out in the production area where the machines run, and where it can be hot, dusty and dirty. You will work with mechanics, electricity, automation, hydraulics and fault finding - and you should have a desire to take things apart, find the fault and get them to work again.

What will you do?

As an automation technician apprentice you will be trained to maintain, fault-find, repair and optimize our machines and production plants.

You will among other things be involved in

  • Fault finding and repair of machines and production equipment
  • Mechanical work and assembly
  • Electrical and automatic systems
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Controls and PLC
  • Robots and automated plants
  • Maintenance and optimization of production equipment

You will therefore learn both how the machines work and how to make them work again when something goes wrong.

A large part of the learning takes place in practice together with experienced colleagues. You will also have school stays, where you gain the theoretical and technical knowledge that you can then use directly in production.

We imagine that you

  • Are eager to learn a technical subject and become really skilled at it
  • Like working with your hands and perhaps already have experience with turning or tinkering with things
  • Are curious about how machines and technology work
  • Want to find faults and solutions
  • Have grit and don’t give up just because something is difficult
  • Can work in a structured and safe manner
  • Are reliable and take responsibility for your tasks
  • Want to be part of a team and contribute to the community

You don’t need to know it all beforehand. The most important thing is that you want to learn and dare to throw yourself into it.

You will become part of a team

As an apprentice you will become part of a team where you will work closely with skilled and experienced colleagues.

We place emphasis on helping each other, communicating properly and taking responsibility for both the task and the colleagues around you.

Therefore it is important to us that you want to be part of a community - not just to get an education.

Before we enter the final training agreement

It is important to us that you know what you are saying yes to. We are a manufacturing company - and a foundry - and we want to be sure that BIRN is the right place for you - and that you are the right apprentice for us.

Therefore you start with an introductory period of about three months with us, before the final training agreement is signed.

It gives you the opportunity to experience everyday life in a foundry up close and to find out whether it is the right industry and workplace for you. At the same time, we get the opportunity to get to know you and see you in daily life as a colleague.

What can BIRN offer?

  • An apprenticeship in a large company with a focus on a good working environment
  • An exciting and fast-paced daily life with plenty of practical and professional challenges
  • A large team of skilled colleagues who help each other
  • Opportunity to gain experience with modern technology, automation and robots
  • A company that takes education of future skilled employees seriously
  • A good canteen arrangement, pension through Industriens Pension and PFA health insurance
