In the program you alternate between school and apprenticeship periods. In the school periods you study at SOSU Østjylland in Aarhus N, and in the apprenticeship periods you work in one of Aarhus Municipality's day-care centers or SFOs, where you gain practical experience with the tasks a pedagogical assistant performs.

Admission requirements

To be able to start the main program you must meet the formal requirements for the pedagogical assistant education. The requirements vary depending on age and work experience.

At a minimum you must have completed Grundforløb 2 for the pedagogical assistant education before starting the main course, and you must have an Education Plan (realkompetencevurdering RKV), which is prepared by the school where you studied Grundforløb 2.

In the class we hire both VET (EUD) and EUV students.

Børn og Unge in Aarhus Municipality is currently also looking for pedagogical assistant apprentices for the EUX education with start in February 2027 and apprentices starting Grundforløb 2 in February 2027. Employment, training and schooling

When you are employed as a pedagogical assistant apprentice, you enter into an education agreement with a day-care facility in Aarhus Municipality. The employment is 37 hours per week. During the training you will spend about half of the time at the SOSU school.

Students must train 3 times during the main course of the education. The first training period will always be in a day-care facility. The training sites are geographically located in different places throughout Aarhus Municipality, so you should expect travel time to your training site.

When applying for the position, indicate whether you want a training place in Aarhus North, Aarhus Center or Aarhus South.

Salary and terms of employment

The trainee education is covered by the collective agreement for child care assistants and pedagogical assistants.

Salary at present

• Student salary approx. 13,500 DKK per month
• Adult student salary (over 25 years) approx. 26,200 DKK per month

Salary is regularly adjusted in accordance with the collective agreement.

Weekly hours: 37

You have a 3-month probation period in the employment. The probation starts the day you begin in the first apprenticeship period.

This is a fixed-term position from January 22, 2027 until the main course is completed.

The position is at all times conditional on a satisfactory public criminal record and an unblemished child‑care certificate.
