Become a graver in Vester Nebel Parish – a versatile job with responsibility and purpose

Do you have a green thumb and are you passionate about sustainability and green transition, while administration and IT don’t make you look the other way? Then you might be the one we are looking for as a sexton at Vester Nebel Church. The position is available from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About the position The position is on 37 hours on average per week.

As a sexton you will have a central role in the parish, where you help ensure that both church and cemetery appear inviting and well-kept. You will become part of a work community where we place emphasis on sustainability, development, collaboration and respect for the church's special tasks.

About Vester Nebel Parish In Vester Nebel Parish, the green transition is on the agenda. We want to be a green church and contribute positively to the environment as much as possible. The parish is characterized by constant redevelopment with new buildings and many new residents. Here there is a rich association life, a school, a kindergarten and day care. We work in the parish council constantly to develop and adapt the church’s offerings so that we remain relevant in society.

Vester Nebel Parish has about 2,200 inhabitants. The church is a typical village church from around the 1100s and has an automatic bell-ringing system installed.

Your tasks Your tasks will include, among other things

• the daily operation and maintenance of the cemetery
• grave openings and other tasks related to funerals and burials, including administrative tasks with grave letters or similar
• church service at services and church ceremonies
• develop the cemetery and contribute to the green transition
• contact with cemetery users and collaboration with colleagues and priests
• cleaning and other routine tasks in the parish house
• other practical tasks that belong to the church’s daily operations.

• can take responsibility and have good collaboration skills

• are open to flexible working hours in connection with church ceremonies, including weekend work.

Practical information There is a duty to perform service at other appointment authorities in the deanery in accordance with the agreements the parish council enters into or has entered into.

You will be employed by Vester Nebel Parish Council, Koldingvej 45C, Vester Nebel, 6040 Egtved.

Salary and terms of employment Employment and pay are made according to the current joint agreement between the Ministry of Finance and OAO-S, as well as the collective agreement for sextons, etc., and concluded between the Ministry of Finance and the Association of Church and Cemetery Employees (FAKK) with an accompanying protocol for sextons. Current civil service-appointed sextons have the right to preserve their civil service status when employed with direct transition. In such a case, the position must be classified.

It is a condition that the mandatory 5-week sexton training is completed within two years after the start of employment, if the training has not already been completed.

Salary is paid within stated salary ranges (current kroner)

Sextons without gardening education (salary group 1)

• 342,523.71 kr. – 421,573.12 kr.

Sextons with gardening education (salary group 2)

• 350,435.40 kr. – 438,259.73 kr.

The position is subject to a duty of availability. The on-call allowance amounts to 27,246.57 kr. per year (current kroner).

Note that the stated amounts apply to a full-time position. Salary and on-call allowance are calculated proportionally according to the position's hours. Final placement is determined according to the agreement and negotiations between the parish council and FAKK.
