About the job

Do you want to help create the framework for professional development, well-being and results while you solve a societally important task? Are you motivated by high professional standards, interdisciplinary collaboration and coordination and by ensuring a common direction and accountability for the task? Then you should apply for the position of Chief Consultant at the Police Complaints Authority.

What are your tasks?

Your main task is to ensure a high professional standard in the handling of behavioural complaint cases and access-to-information cases in close collaboration with the staff in the Legal Department and across the agency.

You will work closely with a specialist consultant for daily professional sparring, quality assurance and signing off on cases as well as training of new staff. You also contribute to the ongoing development of the area by identifying general trends in the cases and pointing to opportunities to improve workflows in case handling, etc.

You will become the nearest sparring partner in your area for our legal head, whom you will collaborate with closely on the management and coordination of the cases. Here you play an important role in ensuring progress in the cases, compliance with deadlines and reduction of case processing time. You must thus lead upwards and take active shared responsibility for us to make the best possible decisions together. This means you contribute with qualified solutions that support clear priorities and efficient operations.

In addition, you will, if needed, handle concrete behavioural complaint cases and access-to-information cases, particularly larger or more complex cases, and you will have tasks of a general nature, e.g. in connection with the Police Complaints Authority's annual report. In addition, you will internally and externally teach, e.g. at the Police Academy, and be part of the screening and on-call rotation at the Police Complaints Authority. You will also be the point of contact for your area in relation to the Police Complaints Authority's partners, including the police districts and the public prosecutors.

Who are you?

You are a highly capable, engaged and experienced jurist (cand.jur.) with good collaborative skills and in-depth knowledge of and experience with concrete legal case handling, including administrative law and preferably criminal law. You also preferably have experience with court cases and police affairs.

We also place emphasis on the following

  • work independently and have high personal and professional integrity,
  • can make independent decisions in areas of great importance for citizens and involved police staff,
  • take joint responsibility for the overall task solving and manage to create a good team spirit among the staff you have the professional responsibility for,
  • have a high work capacity and can handle large volumes of cases securely and at a high professional level,
  • work in a structured manner and quickly adapt to new conditions,
  • have very good writing skills, including linguistic and grammatical sharpness, and enjoy working with written communication and dissemination,
  • value cross-disciplinary collaboration highly, be a good colleague and actively contribute to a good working environment,
  • are results-focused, proactive and take joint responsibility for the Police Complaints Authority to solve its tasks objectively, factually, thoroughly and with high quality while we develop and improve,
  • are a good role model as a chief consultant and are committed to learning, developing, seeking new knowledge and contributing to competence development.

Who are we?

The Police Complaints Authority consists of about 45 employees (jurists, investigators, administrative staff, student helpers, etc.). We are located centrally in Aarhus in new and modern premises.

We are an independent authority that handles behavioural complaints and investigates criminal cases concerning employees in the police and the prosecution authority in Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. We contribute to ensuring trust in the rule of law and ensure legal certainty for all involved parties. We aim to create trust that police complaints are handled correctly and independently and, among other things, ensure efficient case processing and continuously optimize our workflows.

The Police Complaints Authority has been strengthened with a supplementary appropriation as part of the multi-year agreement for the police and the prosecution authority, concluded in December 2025. The extra funding is intended to strengthen the Authority's case processing and reduce the processing time in the Authority's cases.

A stronger and more efficient case processing will support the trust that police complaints are handled correctly and independently and thereby help to maintain and strengthen citizens' trust in the police. A reduction in processing time means that both citizens and police staff do not have to wait unnecessarily for a decision on their case.

What do we offer?

We can offer a development-oriented job in a dynamic and informal workplace with varied and challenging tasks, where we work cross-disciplinary and take shared responsibility for the task. You will have varied tasks and be able to spar with and seek inspiration from skilled and engaged colleagues and leaders. We see the person behind the colleague and care for one another and can safely share mistakes and concerns. At the same time, we develop and improve to strengthen the expertise and quality of task execution.

We share a building with the Independent Inspectorate of Evidence (Bevismiddeltilsynet), and you will therefore also become a colleague with dedicated and capable staff in the Bevismiddeltilsynet. We each have our own professional and working area, but we highly value the social togetherness across the authorities.
