About the job

Civil or military profile is sought as soon as possible as Assistant Defence Industry Attaché to the Royal Danish Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine

About us

The Ministry of Defence is seeking an assistant defence industry attaché to the Danish embassy in Kyiv, who can support the defence attaché with tasks related to support for Ukraine.

Denmark provides extensive support to Ukraine, including training and donations of materiel and equipment, including through procurement directly from Ukrainian defence industry. There is an ongoing need to identify upcoming donations and support needs, gather experiences, and coordinate with Ukrainian authorities, allies and partners so that Danish support to Ukraine can be optimised.

About the position

As assistant defence industry attaché to the embassy in Kyiv, your work will consist of supporting Denmark's support and engagement in relation to the Ukrainian defence industry. You will be part of the defence department with the defence attaché, the other assistant defence attachés, and locally employed assistants.

Denmark and Ukraine have a comprehensive and increasingly close defence and security policy cooperation. The agreement on closer defence and security policy cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine provides a central framework for the further development of cooperation, particularly in the defence industrial area. As assistant defence attaché you will contribute to translating the agreement’s intentions into concrete cooperation and impact.

A significant part of the work will be aimed at the defence industrial cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine. You shall contribute to identifying opportunities and needs, supporting ongoing and upcoming initiatives, and creating coherence between Ukrainian needs and Danish authorities’ and other actors’ efforts. The work also includes follow-up on Danish donations and other military support, as well as gathering experiences that can contribute to developing and targeting Danish support to Ukraine.

The tasks are carried out in close coordination with the Defence Command, the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as relevant Danish and Ukrainian authorities and partners. Building and maintaining relevant relationships and networks in Ukraine will therefore continue to be an important prerequisite for task execution.

You will also be expected to contribute to the defence department’s other work, including tasks related to donations, training and other support in relation to Ukraine. This work takes place in close coordination with the Defence Acquisition and Procurement Agency, the Defence Command, and a number of Danish military authorities and agencies.

There is also a need to continuously keep the Defence Command as well as the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed about significant security and defence policy issues and developments related to the war in Ukraine.

The position will involve a substantial amount of travel within and outside Ukraine as well as planning and conducting high-level visits from the Minister of Defence, the department and the defence authorities.

Ukraine is a country at war, and the position in Kyiv therefore presents some special circumstances, including security threats and separation from relatives.

About you

As a military applicant you are either Captain/First Lieutenant LG4 or Major/Lieutenant Commander LG5 and have either your daily duties in the Armed Forces, are in the reserve, have served in the Armed Forces, or have otherwise insight into the structure and function of the Defence. As a civilian applicant you are either specialist or senior consultant and have an experienced profile, preferably with experience from or knowledge of the Ministry of Defence’s area. Insight into the Danish defence industry would also be an advantage.

You are outgoing and have a positive and constructive approach to colleagues. You will work in a team where there is transparency in task execution, and where we generally cover for each other. You are resilient and can operate in a war-torn country, including handling both mental and physical stress.

You are curious, proactive and innovative by nature in relation to the task, both in meeting other people – regardless of their culture and traditions – and in areas relevant to the Danish-Ukrainian cooperation. You must be able to identify relevant actors across authorities, defence, industry and international partners, understand their roles and potential, and assess how they can be brought into play where they create the greatest value for the cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine. This requires you to establish and maintain the relationships and networks necessary to solve the task.

You have a good holistic view and analytical abilities, where it is important that you understand the link between political and military decisions. You will have to solve many independent tasks and work with several parallel tasks, often with short deadlines. Therefore it is important that you have an overview and can communicate clearly, precisely and concisely in both writing and speaking.

It is an advantage if you have experience with case processing and the preparation of written material at higher staffs, central administration or similar areas. It is also an advantage if you have experience with multinational cooperation or have served in joint services. Finally, it is an advantage, but not a requirement, if you have knowledge of Russian or Ukrainian language.
