Create calm and safe surroundings for a 16-year-old boy

Do you have experience with autism and a calm, acknowledging approach? We are seeking a pedagogue or an experienced unskilled worker for a respite assignment where relationships, trust and predictability are at the center.

About the task

You will be a steady support for a 16-year-old boy who loves watching films, listening to music, drawing and building. He also enjoys board games and short walks in the local area.

The boy has autism and schizophrenia and needs a daily life characterized by calm, structure and predictability. He uses a visual daily plan, which helps him gain an overview of the day’s activities and appointments. When there are too many demands or noise around him, he may withdraw from contact or react with outwardly aggressive behavior. Therefore it is important that you can read his signals, adjust demands and support him in finding calm.

Your most important task will be to build a secure relationship with the boy through presence and activities that take his interests as the starting point. You should be able to follow his pace, motivate without pressuring and create good moments at home. At the same time, your presence helps the family with respite.

The assignment also involves handling PN medication as needed, which you will be trained in.

About you

We are seeking a trained pedagogue or an unskilled worker with solid experience in autism, schizophrenia and outwardly reactive behavior.

You have experience with an acknowledging and low-arousal approach and know how to prevent conflicts by reducing demands, offering alternatives and creating calm in situations where the boy is under pressure.

It is crucial that you have a calm and patient approach, communicate in a quiet and clear tone, and give the relationship time to develop. You should be able to adapt to the boy's needs and create security through a predictable and respectful approach.

Working hours

The position is up to 30 hours per week, distributed across day, afternoon and evening hours as well as weekends.

The family wishes a quiet and calm start, where the number of hours is gradually increased to the approved 30 hours per week. The concrete working days and meeting times are agreed with the family.
