About the job

Are you passionate about the combination of research, development and clinical work? Do you want to help develop future interventions for patients with heart failure – especially in transitions between sectors and with a focus on health inequality?

Then we have a unique, newly established position as a clinical nurse specialist with a PhD – a role that combines highly specialized clinical nursing with research and development tasks in a strong cardiology environment.

We are seeking a research-strong and development-oriented nurse with documented experience and commitment within heart failure, sector transitions and health inequality.

About the department

The Cardiology Department B, OUH, is among the three largest highly specialized heart departments in Denmark. The department consists of:

  • Two inpatient wards (B3 and B4)
  • A cardiology laboratory with an associated day hospital
  • A large outpatient department with several highly specialized clinics

Acute cardiological patients are admitted to FAM’s heart zone or directly to the cardiology laboratory.

We are a large, well-regarded department that stands strong both scientifically and clinically. We work purposefully with care, assessment and treatment of patients with or suspected of heart disease – including the common, the rare, the chronic, the highly specialized and the life-threatening.

We value patient-centered treatment, high professional standards, cross-disciplinary collaboration and research-based development. In addition, we are an active education department.

About ward B3 – who are we?

On B3, nursing staff mainly care for and treat patients with

  • Endocarditis or suspected endocarditis
  • Refractory, difficult-to-treat chronic heart failure
  • Significant valvular heart disease
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Decompensated right- or left-sided heart failure
  • Transplant patients
  • Palliation

We are a dedicated and committed staff group that

  • Always puts the patient with heart disease first
  • Systematically works to develop and improve patient pathways
  • Has a strong focus on patient safety
  • Active involvement of patients and relatives
  • Works cross-disciplinary

About the position

As a clinical nurse specialist with a PhD and special competencies and tasks within heart failure, sector transitions and health inequality, you will be employed in a combined position with the possibility of research time.

There will also be an opportunity to work towards a regular SDU affiliation as either a postdoc or assistant professor, where relevant.

The research time must be covered as a release from your development time, and it is expected that you themselves contribute to applying for funding for this part. Until funding for research time release is available, you will:

  • dedicate 40% of your time to development tasks in collaboration with our clinical specialists
  • development tasks will be based on the areas above
  • participate in clinical work on ward B3 and weekend duty every 4th weekend
  • collaborate with our professor with a nursing background, educational leaders, training coordinators and clinical specialists
  • collaborate with the other researchers in the department, where relevant to the three areas

The position entails a central role in developing collaboration with and around the primary health care system, just as it creates opportunities for later research within heart failure, sector transitions and health inequality. With SDU affiliation as a postdoc or assistant professor you will be expected to prepare a protocol and a research plan, and in the position as a clinical nurse specialist with a PhD you will be able to receive guidance for this part. Formal university obligations, including teaching and supervision, will be agreed upon if relevant/appropriate.

We offer you

  • Thorough introduction and onboarding to the department
  • A very engaged colleague group that prioritizes good and specialized nursing
  • Collaboration with the department’s other research-active colleagues
  • A highly specialized and innovative environment focused on developing patient pathways and research
  • Collaboration with the department’s research and education units
  • A good working environment where we have recognized that progress is made through collaboration
  • Employment in a department with a high level of ambition for patients, relatives and volunteers
  • Prioritization of competence development and development opportunities for all staff groups
  • Strong professional anchoring among colleagues in the leadership team and in the nursing leadership

We want you to

  • Lead by example and be a clear role model
  • Inspire colleagues and promote professional development
  • Be able to create structure in an unpredictable everyday life
  • Have documented research competencies (that you have obtained a PhD or are near the end of your PhD)
  • Find it attractive to try new approaches and test new ways of working
  • Communicate openly and trustfully
  • Be appreciative and present
  • Thrive in both mono- and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Actively contribute to a good interdisciplinary work environment
  • Be able to establish stable and flexible collaboration relationships – both internally and externally
  • Have experience with research within the mentioned areas
  • Be willing to strengthen work with the close health care system
  • Have clinical experience from cardiology
