About the job

Aalborg Municipality is at the heart of a development where operations not only aim to make everyday life function, but to shape the framework for the municipality of the future. As Head of the Administrative Area for Operations (Drift) you will have a key role in one of the country’s largest municipalities with responsibility for an operations organization that every day leaves clear marks on citizens' daily lives, the city’s development and the entire North Jutland’s cohesion.

As Head of the Administrative Area for Operations you will have a central leadership task in connecting strategic overview with an understanding of practical operations. You shall create clear priorities, ensure robust and efficient task execution and unite an organization with many professional disciplines, cultures and ways of working around common goals and a strong shared direction. At the same time you will contribute to making Operations’ work more visible and understood, both internally in the municipality, politically and towards citizens, businesses and partners.

You will be overall responsible for the Center for Parking, Guarding and Service, Green Operations and Ferries as well as Road Maintenance and Projects, three large operations divisions each with their own division head and in total about 20 managers and 280 employees.

The tasks range from parking control, guarding service and citizen-facing service to operation and maintenance of roads, paths, green areas, nature and ferries, and they have great significance for the municipality’s accessibility, safety and physical framework. Operations is under continuous development and must deliver stability in daily life, while the organization develops in step with the municipality’s needs within, among other things, green transition, climate adaptation and resource use.

You report to the Director of Technology and Environment and become part of the management team together with the heads of Administration for Authority and Service, Planning and Urban Quality, Strategy and Management Support as well as Projects and Coordination. Here you will share responsibility for ensuring that the organization achieves political results, and that the Councilman and the political committees have a strong basis for making decisions. You also contribute to developing and anchoring the administration’s strategies and objectives.

An important task will be to strengthen the coherence between Operations and the rest of the administration and build a bridge between the special operations organization and the shared leadership space in Technology and Environment.

You come with solid leadership experience from a large and diverse organization where you have created direction, coherence and results through other managers and employees. You understand the importance of the operations area for citizens’ daily lives and can translate political ambitions into prioritized, efficient and sustainable task execution.

You have insight into municipal organization and political servicing, preferably complemented by experience from technical, operational or infrastructural areas, and you hold a relevant higher education degree, preferably supplemented with a leadership education. You lead with trust and respect, are relationally strong and visible in your leadership, have political acumen and are decisive, even when difficult decisions must be made.

You are also prepared to get close to practice so that employees, citizens and partners experience a curious, competent and present leader.
