About the job

If you are a lawyer with relevant experience, you can apply for a constitutional appointment as a judge at the Frederiksberg City Court with effect from 1 March 2027 . It is a training constitutional appointment with an intensive and focused four-month program, during which you independently assume the role of judge. You will receive personal guidance along the way from two of the court's judges regarding your professional and personal competencies.

It is possible to apply for similar constitutional appointments at the courts in Aalborg, Viborg, Kolding, Odense, Hillerød, Næstved and at the Copenhagen City Court.

About the constitutional program

The constitutional program begins with an introductory course together with the other constitutional district court judges. Thereafter you will handle what corresponds to about 75 percent of a judge’s cases, and you will quickly take on the role of judge several days a week on your own. It is aimed that you will handle both civil cases and criminal cases, and that you will participate in a three-judge case or a jury case.

During the constitution you are closely supervised by two judges for two months at a time. They will continuously evaluate your conduct of court hearings and the drafting of written works and provide you with concrete and constructive feedback regarding your professional and personal competencies. You thus receive a unique opportunity for daily sparring with an experienced judge.

At the end of the constitutional period you will receive a comprehensive statement from the President of the City Court regarding a number of your personal and professional competencies as well as an assessment of your suitability as a judge.

Qualifications

It is a condition of the constitutional appointment that you have passed the Master of Laws (cand.lov.) examination.

The target group for the district court constitutional appointments is employees of the courts as well as external candidates, including lawyers, who want insight into the work of a district court judge. The program is primarily aimed at you who have 5-10 years of relevant legal professional experience or who have completed a regional court constitutional appointment but are not permanently employed by the courts.

It is essential that you have the qualifications required to hold the court on your own. There is therefore an expectation that you:

  • have exceptionally strong theoretical qualifications
  • are ready to make decisions of great importance
  • can work independently and have impact
  • have good communication skills both orally and in writing
  • are open to acquiring new knowledge and receiving feedback
  • are interested in societal conditions
  • show respect and proper conduct in your communication and with others.

District court constitutional appointments can also be sought by external applicants who have completed a regional court constitutional appointment but who would like more practical experience from a district court. The constitutional period in the district court will continue to be the focal point for assessing the applicant's suitability as a judge, but a district court constitutional appointment can particularly shed light on the individual's abilities in court management and mediation.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment to the position is temporary and is made on terms according to the collective agreement unless the applicant is already a civil servant.

The position is placed in salary grade 38. In addition, a non-pensionable personal allowance is attached to the position. The total salary currently amounts to 69,168 DKK per month excluding pension (August 1, 2026 level).

For employees under the collective agreement, there is also a pension contribution of 18.07% of the wage base salary.

A relocation allowance can be paid if the conditions for this are met. Any such allowance will be taxed according to the applicable rules.

Application

You apply for the position electronically at www.domstol.dk under “Job”. If you apply for more than one district court constitutional appointment, you must apply for them separately. In that case please indicate in your applications which positions you have applied for, and provide a prioritized order of them.

Please attach a curriculum vitae, final bachelor’s and master’s certificates, indicating grades and grade average, as well as any regional court statement. In addition, please attach a clear digital photo. Applications must have been received in the recruitment system no later than 23 November 2026.
