About the job

Do you want to teach young people and create instruction where academic rigour and practice go hand in hand? Do you have competencies in mathematics, cultural subjects, Danish as a second language and a desire to work with young people who are new in Denmark? Then you might be our new colleague.

About the position

Frederiksberg Youth School is seeking a teacher for our HDU class (Heldags Dansk Undervisning / Full-day Danish Instruction) 15 hours per week.

HDU is a full-time offer for young people who are new in Denmark, and where the development of Danish as a second language is integrated across the teaching.

Your primary teaching will be in mathematics and cultural subjects. You will become part of a small, dedicated team that works closely together to create a safe, motivating and developmental school day for the students.

The teaching is practical and based on the students' different academic and linguistic prerequisites, needs and potentials.

The target group

HDU is aimed at newly arrived youths between 16 and 18 years who

  • have short or medium-length school background from their home country
  • need an intensive and structured teaching program
  • wish to strengthen their academic and Danish-language competencies with a view to further education, work and active participation in Danish society.

The teaching is arranged as a day service with focus on language, subject knowledge, culture and understanding of society.

Your primary tasks

  • Teaching in mathematics and cultural subjects.
  • Two-teacher lessons in English and Danish.
  • To support students' development of Danish as a second language through teaching in your subjects.
  • Planning and implementing differentiated, practice-oriented and motivating teaching programs.
  • Collaboration with colleagues regarding students' learning, well-being and development.
  • To actively contribute to the academic and social community around the HDU class.

We imagine that you

  • have teaching experience and preferably a teacher education or other relevant professional background.
  • have competencies and a desire to teach mathematics and cultural subjects.
  • have an interest in or experience with Danish as a second language.
  • have experience with classroom management and differentiated teaching.
  • have experience with or be motivated to work with young people with diverse linguistic, academic and cultural prerequisites.
  • are good at building relationships and clear and safe frameworks.
  • are flexible, inclusive and curious about each individual young person’s resources and possibilities.
  • thrive in close collaboration in a small team.

We offer

  • A 15-hour position where you have the opportunity to make a concrete difference for young people who are finding their way in the Danish education system.
  • A varied workday.
  • An engaged and supportive colleague community.
  • Possibility to shape the teaching and development of the HDU offering.
  • A workplace focused on professional development, relationships and the well-being of young people.
