About the job

The Tax Administration is seeking a highly professional head of department for the Department of Control & Enforcement.

About the department

Control & Enforcement handles the following core tasks within the tax, duty and customs area; administration and control of companies, self-employed persons and employers in the tax area and administration and control of the customs and excise area.

The department is organizationally divided into four offices with staff physically located in Nuuk, Qaqortoq, Ilulissat and Denmark. The tasks cover guidance, assessment and audit of businesses and companies. The controls cover everything from ordinary document verification to transfer pricing controls and special controls related to anti-money laundering, undeclared work, unregistered business, establishment of tax liability for foreign companies, etc.

The department fulfills the role as competent authority in relation to international agreements and the exchange of information to and from international authorities.

The customs task includes control of inbound and outbound travel and import and export of goods. The office also handles tasks related to import duties and import/export declarations and is expected during the autumn to expand the control task to the other duty areas.

Cooperation with other authorities

We have a good and close collaboration with other authorities, particularly with the police, the Nordic customs authorities and the Danish tax authorities. In these years we have with strong political support a particular focus on money laundering and undeclared work in both our tax and customs offices.

The position

As head of department you have the overall professional and personnel responsibility for the department.

As head of department you also have responsibility for ensuring high productivity and quality in task execution. You do not need to be a lawyer, but must be able to set direction, prioritise and ensure legally sound decisions in the tax and duty area, appropriate IT operational support and appropriate distribution of resources that ensure the statutory tasks are carried out. This takes place in close interaction and dialogue with employees, professional specialists and relevant partners.

Professional and managerial requirements

We expect you to be an experienced leader with documented leadership skills as well as an in-depth understanding of and experience with public administration, politically governed organizations and professional knowledge within all or part of the department's areas of responsibility.

  • Relevant higher education
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills
  • Ability to translate objectives into concrete action and governance

Personal qualities

The applicant is expected to have national and international outlook. The right candidate possesses strong communication and collaboration skills as well as personal impact. The position requires visible leadership that can build and maintain an effective and reliable department that is continuously developed and adapted to the organization's needs.

In addition, the candidate is expected to exhibit loyalty, have a structured approach to work and place emphasis on human relations and transparency as the basis for a good working environment – both at management level and among employees in the Tax Administration.

We offer

  • An exciting and important management position in the Greenlandic Self-Government
  • Opportunity to influence the development of the control task in Greenland
  • A professional environment with engaged and competent staff
  • Salary and terms of employment in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for managers in the Greenlandic Self-Government

Starting date
