About the job

Herstedøster Skole is seeking a mathematics teacher for our 1st year class and two Danish teachers for 5th and 7th grade respectively , who will contribute to developing our school and teaching even further and join a competent community around teaching.

There are also other subjects on the timetable, as we combine many lessons for the year group, especially among the younger students. We are looking for teachers in craft/design, German, English and cultural subjects - so if you have competencies in this field, that is a plus!

In addition, we are seeking a subject teacher for our lower secondary - we are open to your subject combination, but in particular practical/musical subjects and swimming are of interest.

Albertslund is a green municipality with big ambitions. We are proud of our municipality and take care in our tasks and efforts for the citizens, associations and businesses. We are one municipality and one organization. We have engaged and skilled employees and a collaborative culture that crosses across areas and levels. This makes Albertslund Municipality a good place to work.

We are seeking a mathematics teacher for our 1st year class - with teaching duties as form tutor in a NEST-class and a general class. In the Nest class there are 14 wonderful students, of whom 3 have an allocated place. There is assigned a fixed Nest-pedagogue, who has all their hours in the class together with the mathematics and Danish teachers, and supervision and sparring is provided with mentors (psychological mentor and special education mentor). There is also plenty of opportunity here to develop one’s practice together with competent colleagues.

We are very fond of the open, investigative and problem-solving mathematics. Mathematics must be both fun, lively and meaningful for the students. Although many mathematical rules are static, the subject of mathematics and its purpose are always in dynamic change. You must therefore be familiar with the mathematical competencies and be prepared to develop yourself with the subject, as described in the curriculum. We have close collaboration with the municipality’s mathematics consultant, who together with mentors supports mathematics teachers in developing their understanding of the subject.

In the lower primary, we have a close collaboration with SFO One, and each class in the lower primary has a school educator with them for 10–11 hours per week to contribute to the students’ well-being, learning and development from a different pedagogical perspective. The educators participate in weekly team meetings with the teachers in the year group.

We also seek a Danish teacher and form tutor for 5th and 7th grade , who will help develop our school and teaching even further and engage in a competent collaboration with the rest of the team about the teaching in the year group. In the Danish subject we are focused on opening the world for our students through work with reading, composition, interpretation and communication, and we also work systematically with academic reading and reading strategies throughout the students’ school journey and in all subjects.

We are developing the contextual grammar and spelling instruction and look forward to diving into the new curriculum, so you should be prepared to plan teaching that is fun, lively and meaningful for the students.

This school year, together with the school’s reading advisors and experienced teachers from the Copenhagen University College of Engineering and Science, we have initiated a collaboration to develop reading in 0th–9th grade - to improve students’ reading. During this school year all of the school’s Danish teachers will participate in an internal course on reading learning and reading comprehension, where there is time for deepening and sparring.

At Herstedøster Skole, subject excellence and community go hand in hand, and we are looking for you who wish to collaborate closely with your colleagues across the year group and see the strength in developing teaching together. We work in an inclusive and structured way, and we place a high value on relationship work with students, parents and colleagues.

We expect from you...

  • A burning desire to form relationships with students and colleagues and clarity in your classroom management.
  • You believe that close team collaboration supports students’ learning, well-being and development, and you adjust your practice if you experience a lack of learning.
  • You are curious about understanding what motivates students and makes them feel safe in the learning environment.

A little about the school…

We have a well-functioning guidance corps ready to welcome you and offer you sparring on your teaching; we will in general place great emphasis on helping you feel secure in your task solving and we also have a mentoring scheme.

We are currently in an exciting development, where we, with co-teaching, cross-year group division and Nest-inspired teaching in the general track, seek to develop pedagogical practice so that there are even more opportunities for student participation. We therefore place great emphasis on professional collaboration in all subjects, and we work on the premise that teaching is a shared responsibility.

It is important to us that all children and young people have the best opportunities to feel like part of a positive community. To increase social capital in the classroom we systematically use the method Relation-building and -reinstating practices in daily speech called RGP . We have several trained RGP instructors and there is also the possibility for you to obtain the training.

We have NEST classes in 0st–3rd year and we work with the NEST pedagogy in all our general classes.

We have excellent facilities at the school in the form of our own sports hall, gym, running track and ball field, spacious common areas, newly arranged classrooms well-equipped science rooms. But it often happens that teaching is also conducted in the local environment – the forest, at the stadium, the Nature Center, Viking Village or at Lyngby Campus, LIFE Foundation.

Singing creates unity. For several years we have participated in the research project Everyone Can Sing and in this context choir and morning song are part of the timetable every week in the youngest classes.

Our students work on Chromebooks, and all classes are equipped with Clevertouch screens, so we have pretty good opportunities to work with digital tools and technologies.

At the school we have a pleasant and inclusive atmosphere, kind and helpful colleagues, a well-functioning guidance corps, a mentoring system, own office space with computer, coffee/tea arrangement and much more.

Herstedøster Skole is a four-track school with 900 students, two special class rows for children with autism and socio-emotional challenges and three Nest classes in the lower primary. We are located in beautiful green surroundings right next to Vestskoven.

The school's address: Trippendalsvej 2, Albertslund.

There are good public transport options via Glostrup and Albertslund Stations, and you can also easily reach us by car or bike.

The positions are full-time, and there are both permanent positions and maternity cover roles.

Hurry to send us an application - as we are eager to find the right person to start no later than January 1, 2027.

Salary placement is negotiated between the municipality and the negotiating organization.
