About the job

Are you passionate about teaching dedicated employees and leaders? Do you want to join a professional team that educates military and civilian case officers throughout the group? Do you have a strong interest in pedagogy? Then you may be our upcoming colleague in the Section for Continuing Education.

About us

Institute for Leadership and Organization (ILO) contributes to creating more combat power for the Defence by delivering education and professional formation to the Defence's chiefs and leaders, enabling them to meet the Defence's immediate challenges, as well as the Defence's long-term known and unknown military challenges, so the Defence can win on the battlefield of the future.

The institute has a strong, ambitious and developing professional environment with an informal tone. We prioritize a close interaction between education, research and experience from organizational and leadership development. In this way we ensure that we can offer chiefs and leaders the most relevant and up-to-date competence development. This places high demands on us to constantly adapt to the needs of the times and keep ourselves professionally updated.

The Continuing Education Section offers courses in leadership, administration and case processing to the entire group’s employees as well as military and civilian leaders and managers. In line with the Defence's current development, the courses are continuously developed, which you are expected to become a natural part of.

There are about 60 employees at ILO, of which the Continuing Education Section comprises 10 employees and a manager.

About the position.

The position is at study adjunct, alternatively senior lecturer level depending on competencies and experience. Here, regard is among other things given to teaching experience and whether you have completed a pedagogical training (pædagogikum).

The Continuing Education section consists of three teams, and you will join Team Case Processing. Your primary task will be as course leader and teacher to plan, organize, carry out and evaluate teaching on the course Case Processing and Administrative Law . Teaching is closely coordinated with your team colleagues. ILO has attached three external lawyers, who carry out teaching in administrative law, so your role will be to teach in the subject Case Processing.

The course's aim is to educate military and civilian employees to be able to fulfill the function as a case handler in the group’s staffs and commands, where good case handling and decision proposals contribute to good decisions and thus combat power.

The course's primary target group is captains and captain-lieutenants in the role of new case handlers in staffs and commands, but there is generally a very diverse participant group on the course. This very diversity contributes to a good learning environment, where participants share and learn from each other’s experiences. The course has been offered since 2014. The team also conducts courses in Defence Writing Method for more experienced case handlers.

A secondary function will be to contribute to the development of the courses, so they at all times remain relevant for participants and contracting authorities. In addition you should expect to contribute to the section's other case processing, just as you will take on other tasks, depending on ILO needs and your competences and interests.

You are expected to complete the Defence Academy’s pedagogy training, which strengthens teachers' pedagogical and didactic competences. In addition, there is ongoing competence development within your professional area.

Sagsbehandling og Forvaltningsjura consists of four in-person modules of two days. Eight courses are offered annually from 2027 – which is a tripling of the offering. Half of the courses are conducted online. Courses are conducted at Defence establishments across Denmark, so there will be some travel activity associated with the position. You participate yourself in the planning, so special needs can usually be accommodated.

About you

You have a background as a case handler, typically a deputy administrator, at one of the group’s authorities or a similar position. Through that you have built up a solid knowledge of case processing and workflows in a staff, command or agency. You also have a relevant master's degree.

It is an advantage if you have teaching experience from previous positions.

You want to contribute to educating the group’s future case handlers who can contribute to integrity in administration and to preparing good decision proposals. You have good collaboration skills and are used to participating in professional communities with passionate colleagues.

You communicate well verbally and in writing and you can see yourself engaging in constructive, developing dialogues with participants, colleagues, partners and contracting authorities. You manage to keep a cool head in a busy everyday life, and you thrive with a leadership style where you and your colleagues translate the chief's directives and intentions into high-quality teaching for the benefit of the Defence.

You manage to contribute to a good working environment among colleagues and in the classroom.

Throughout your career you have further developed your competences.

Employment terms

Employment is in accordance with the currently applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement) and Circular on protocol regarding certain employment terms for academically civil researchers and teachers at the Defence Academy and Provision regarding the job structure for civilian employed researchers with and without teaching duties, as well as civilian academic teachers at the Defence Academy.

Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is an option for negotiation of supplements. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is in Copenhagen Ø.

As an employee within the Defence Ministry’s area you are subject to some special terms. You must, among other things, be able to be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

Defence Academy

At the Defence Academy we educate the leaders of the future in the Defence so that they become some of the best in NATO. Our education is anchored in the military profession within the Army, Navy, and Air Force as well as the elements that cross the three services.

The education ranges from the basic sergeant and officer training in one of the three services or as a language officer, to further education courses and standalone courses for Defence employees, to a Master in Military Studies. All advanced studies are based on research within our three core areas; military operations, military strategy and military leadership, which are handled by the academy's five institutes.

In addition to providing research-based teaching, our military knowledge is also widely used in and outside the Defence for the benefit of society, our allies and other partners. The Academy has a large network of collaboration partners at both Danish and foreign research and educational institutions, and contributes to the development of NATO's doctrines and research projects.
