About the job

Are you passionate about working with young people from marginalized housing areas and supporting them to organize themselves into strong communities? And are you up for being involved when the coolest youth councils and youth communities create local activities, speak up and demand changes? Then you are the one we need!

As an intern in the national youth program you will help coordinate our efforts in, among other places, Tingbjerg, Nordvest and on the Vestegn. Here we support youths to organize themselves into strong communities so they can together create change and better conditions for themselves and other young people. The project work is anchored in strong partnerships including housing-social holistic plans, local youth clubs, schools, etc.

As an intern you will support the youth communities and facilitate youth activities in one or more of the areas mentioned. You will be responsible for developing workshops and teaching programs that create democratic spaces for action, where young people can dream, create change and initiate activities – by youths, for youths. We work with themes such as inequality, anti-discrimination, political empowerment and diverse communities that make young people local actors and co-creators.

Become part of a dedicated and motivated team

You will join the National Youth Program team, where you will receive professional input through collegial sparring, professional days and development activities. The team consists of 8 staff – including a team leader, a program manager, a project manager and five coordinators.

With us you become part of a dynamic and engaged team where collaboration and sparring are a natural part of daily life. We prioritize learning highly – as an intern you will have a mentor who continuously provides professional sparring, talks with you about well-being and helps set and achieve your learning goals. You will have the opportunity to put your own mark on projects, but you will never be alone – we lift together.

As an intern we expect you to

  • You are passionate about working with young people and ensuring they have a voice and influence over their own lives.
  • You are willing to teach and/or facilitate processes with young people.
  • You are good at building relations and are ready to meet young people with curiosity and openness. A large part of our work is informal relationships with the young, where you discuss life’s small and big dilemmas, for example.
  • You may have professional knowledge within democratic participation, local democracy, anti-discrimination or the challenges and opportunities for youth in marginalized areas.
  • You are motivated by working with volunteers.
  • You will continuously handle administrative tasks and support internal coordination of tasks.
  • You are pursuing a relevant higher education degree (e.g., sociology, pedagogy, anthropology, political science, education science or similar)

We offer you

  • An unpaid internship position of about 30 hours per week (we agree details and align with study rules).
  • Five months of employment from mid-January to end of June (with flexibility).
  • Mutually flexible working hours. Since we work with young people and volunteers, we expect you to be flexible to work in the evenings and weekend hours. In return, we are also flexible for you to take courses and work alongside, as well as days off.

In Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke we believe in diversity and equal opportunities for all. We therefore encourage all – regardless of gender, culture, ethnicity, religion and political background – to apply for this position, as we value a diverse workforce.
