Introductory position in internal medicine: gastroenterology and hepatology

We are seeking an intern doctor to the Department of Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Aalborg University Hospital, with start on December 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 12-month training program.

Are you curious about stomach, bowel and liver diseases and would you like to have a solid internal medicine start to your specialist training? Then we offer a training program with broad clinical experience, close supervision and a good collegial environment.

About the department The department has four main areas of interest: chronic inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic diseases, chronic liver disease and short bowel syndrome. We provide highly specialized functions within these areas and collaborate closely with a number of clinical departments on cross-cutting functions.

The department consists of inpatient wards, day ward, outpatient clinic, endoscopy unit and research unit. As an introductory doctor you will therefore have the opportunity to see, treat and follow both highly specialized gastroenterology and hepatology patients and broad internal medicine patients.

We work in a coordinated manner towards the good, cohesive patient pathway and place great emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration with the nursing staff.

Duties and on-call shifts You participate in the department's daily operations with

• Rounds on the inpatient ward
• Outpatient function, including your own patient pathways under supervision
• Participation in the department's on-call function
• Supervision and acute assessments in collaboration with the department's other doctors

Depending on interest and department needs you can be attached to one of our areas for a period of employment.

Education and supervision We prioritize guidance and security in everyday work. You will receive:

• A fixed main supervisor and an individual educational program according to the objective description for the introductory training in internal medicine: gastroenterology and hepatology
• Daily morning conference and weekly conferences, including radiology and specialty area conferences
• Opportunity for introduction to endoscopy, ultrasound and invasive procedures
• Opportunity to participate in the department's research

The department has pre- and postgraduate educational obligations. You participate in clinical teaching of foundation doctors, medical students and other professional groups.

• Approved clinical basic training and independent work on entry
• Interest in internal medicine and medical gastroenterology and hepatology
• Good collaboration skills and willingness to work across disciplines
• Commitment to own learning and willingness to teach others

Previous experience from a medical department is an advantage, but not required.
