About the department

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Aalborg University Hospital provides highly specialized functions and has teaching obligations for doctors in basic and specialist training as well as for medical students in the field of orthopedic surgery.

The department has 32 inpatient beds in the Hospital City. Aalborg University Hospital is a level 1 trauma center with reception and treatment of multi-trauma patients in the North Jutland Region.

Doctors in the introductory position participate in the on-call shift, which is an on-site stand-by shift in the operating room as well as in the emergency department. Day function is either in the allocated sector or as supervisor in the emergency department.

The department received in 2023 the "The Golden Yoda" which is the annual prize for young orthopedic surgeons awarded to the department in the country with the best educational environment.

What do we offer?

  • A position focused on learning, development and professional progression
  • A safe and well-functioning working environment
  • Close contact with experienced colleagues – we work in a team with a flat structure and a good atmosphere
  • For the right training physician there will be opportunities for extensive operative activity.

We have, in orthopedics, a special focus on the practical part of doctors' education, and the employee will be placed in relevant subject areas for the training plans in the introductory position.

As an introductory physician you will have placements in trauma, wound/infection/amputation, hand and sports sectors.

Education in the field of hand surgery takes place at Farsø Hospital, Aalborg University Hospital.

Participation in trauma team training and prehospital course in preparedness is regarded as part of the education and is therefore paid for by the department. ATLS and AO can be applied for and possibly subsidized

Our department has 1 professor and is very research-active, and as a university hospital we expect everyone to actively participate in research.

As a training physician you can expect that the department has mentors and resources to help you start a research project. Applicants with research experience will be given priority.

We expect a strong commitment from you as an introductory physician, but in return offer a psychologically safe learning and working environment. We place high value on collegial cohesion in the department, and there are social events outside working hours.

We emphasize that you

  • Are engaged, curious and willing to learn
  • Have an eye for both the professional and relational aspects in encounters with patients and colleagues
  • Dare to take responsibility – and speak up when you are in doubt
  • That you have an overview, can coordinate and create flow in the department
  • Contribute to creating a positive and collaborative culture

Salary and employment terms in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Regions in Denmark and Young Doctors.

We look forward to receiving your online application no later than 22.10.26
