About the job
If a varied and content-rich work life, with room for professional development and the opportunity to shape your own midwifery career, is what you dream of, then we believe that Herlev Hospital is for you. Right now we are seeking midwives for a number of permanent positions with day/evening/night shifts.
We have decided to use some of the Finance Act funds for a staffing increase in the maternity ward and need more midwives who wish to become part of our lovely department in fantastic, new premises. We have a wonderful collegial atmosphere with great professional engagement, and you have the opportunity to put your own mark on your working life as a midwife in our department.
Department of Gynaecology, Pregnancy and Birth at Herlev Hospital is a department where professionalism is placed first, both when it comes to close clinical care and when we elevate ourselves in the broader research perspective. We handle about 5,000 births annually with continuity and presence as the basic premise in our work with our pregnant people, those in labor, and those in the postnatal period.
About us
- We are affiliated with the regional home birth scheme , which gives those giving birth the option to choose a home birth and where the experienced midwife is on call from home.
- We have a luxurious and well-functioning delivery clinic that is located in a separate building, furnished with double rooms with a lounge, a bathtub and a delivery room, providing you as a midwife with the finest framework to manage spontaneous uncomplicated births.
- We have a Department for Pregnancy & Loss , which is isolated from other birthing areas, where we collaborate across the entire department and handle late abortions from week 12 as well as, of course, fetal-maternal care.
A department offering good patient pathways with few handovers, and the possibility for good follow-up after birth with midwives and psychologists employed at the hospital.
- We work with the concepts: 'Fair burden in the on-call shifts' and 'Predictability, transparency' in relation to tasks and schedules.
Our shift planners do everything they can to fit your individual wishes into your schedule, so that a sustainable midwifery life is highly valued. We have different models for weekend work, and you can choose to work part-time or full-time with or without a norm reduction. We prioritize giving as many people as possible 3 weeks of consecutive summer vacation, where desired.
- We work purposefully with the approach Interprofessional Learning and Collaboration (IPLS) where we learn with, about and from each other in a safe learning environment and interdisciplinary teams for the benefit of our patients and their relatives.
We offer
- Fantastic new premises and facilities.
Our part of Herlev Hospital is newly built and inaugurated in 2021, and we moved the entire birth department to newly furnished premises in autumn 2022. All 10 of our delivery rooms have nitrous oxide and a bathtub, and we have a mobile learning lab for close simulation training during shifts, e.g. for gemelli or UK birth.
- Possibility for part-time positions between the maternity ward, birth reception, maternity ward and the postnatal ward.
Midwives on the maternity ward can also handle consultations, elective C-section shifts, PP-related shifts, shifts in the vaginal rupture outpatient clinic and shifts in our pregnancy clinic 1, for the sick ambulatory pregnant. We believe that the variation in shifts, together with the overall shift load, is the key to a long and sustainable midwifery life.
Therefore we also offer the possibility of shifts with different numbers of hours, and family-friendly meeting times with, for example, long quiet mornings with your child, or coming home early. You can choose whether your appointment should include 12-hour shifts.
- A large group of wonderful, diverse and skilled colleagues, who look forward to welcoming you warmly.
We place high value on interdisciplinary collaboration, where input from all professional groups is valued. In addition, we have a fantastic collegial atmosphere with overnight baking, gift boxes, parties, bingo events, etc.
- A cohesive visible leadership team, that together with an efficiently functioning union works hard for your working conditions and to support you if you encounter challenges in your working life.
Parts of the leadership team participate in on-call work – including on-call shifts.
- Large opportunities for professional development, so you can challenge yourself in many midwifery professional directions.
We offer you ongoing competence development and simulation training. We have a mentorship program and offer supervision.
- A thorough introduction program regardless of whether you are new to the profession or seasoned – our own JOIN program includes everyone and provides the best starting point for beginning a position at Herlev Hospital.
We are also part of the Region Capital's Graduate Program for newly graduated midwives.
- Continuing education , for example courses in obstetric training, acupuncture, rebozo, suturing, mental health or anything that can broaden your midwifery horizon and energize the whole department.
- Involvement in our research projects in the department. We have a midwife PhD student and many doctors employed who research in exciting and innovative directions.
Our newly started obstetric rupture clinic is a good example of an interdisciplinary clinical/research collaboration that is professionally supported by both midwives and doctors, to the benefit of both staff and patients.
If you have become curious about meeting us, or would like an informal chat and the possibilities at Herlev Hospital, please contact one of our wonderful deputy chief midwives:
