About the job

Do you want the responsibility for the daily operation of a highly specialized emissions laboratory, where quality, precision and standards are paramount? And would you bring your laboratory expertise into play in research and development projects within future biobased materials?

At Wood and Biomaterials at the Technical Institute in Taastrup we are seeking a new colleague who is motivated by precision work, accredited testing and standardized methods. You will become part of a small, closely collaborative team of highly specialized colleagues who help manufacturers document and minimize emissions from e.g. building materials and furniture.

Ensure operation and quality in our emissions laboratory

Your primary task will be to ensure the daily operation, maintenance and quality assurance of our emissions laboratory. Here we perform advanced chemical analyses of off-gassing from building materials and furniture, including VOCs, formaldehyde, etc.).

Work is performed according to international standards, including ISO 16000 and EN 16516, and is under DANAK accreditation. You will have a central role in ensuring reliable measurements and results, on which our customers can base decisions.

Your tasks will include

  • Operation and setup of emission tests: Preparation of sample specimens and management of our emission and testing chambers, including climate control and collection of air samples on absorption media.
  • Quality assurance, instrumentation and calibration: Calibration of analytical equipment and testing chambers, method development and active participation in maintaining and expanding our high quality standards (QA/QC) toward upcoming accreditations.
  • Data processing and reporting: Post-processing of measurement data, calculations and preparation of accredited test reports for our customers.
  • Customer contact: Close and professional dialogue with our customers regarding receipt, handling and preparation of test materials as well as communication of results.
  • Interdisciplinary project- and lab-participation: Ad hoc participation in research and development projects. Especially when new biobased materials need to be tested for emissions, but also by lending a hand in our other laboratories (e.g., the fiber laboratory).

Quality-conscious profile with technical flair

There are several paths into the position, and your exact educational background is not decisive. You can have a background as a laboratory technician, process technologist, graduate engineer or have built up your knowledge through other routes within laboratory and analytical work.

The most important for us is your professional motivation, your technical curiosity and your willingness to take ownership of the laboratory's operation.

We would like you to

  • Have practical experience with chemical laboratory work (e.g., analytical chemistry, sampling techniques, spectrophotometry or similar).
  • Have technical flair and understanding of instrumentation, gas analysis and climate control in a modern laboratory.
  • Work systematically and with a strong focus on quality, with great respect for accreditation requirements and traceability. It is advantageous to have knowledge of working according to technical protocols and standards (e.g., EN standards or similar).
  • Be prepared that the work sometimes involves physical activity, e.g., handling of material samples as well as operating our pilot plant and larger process machines (such as grinders, drying ovens and hydraulic presses) in the fiber laboratory.
  • Be proficient in Danish and English, in writing and speech.

As a person you thrive in a role where you work independently with testing and participate in close, interdisciplinary collaboration to solve customers' challenges.

You will become part of the Technical Institute

Wood and Biomaterials is Denmark's largest knowledge centre for the use of wood and biobased materials. We offer independent advisory, accredited testing and practice-oriented research in close collaboration with both Danish and international companies as well as knowledge centers. We offer an exciting workplace with good opportunities for professional development, flexible working conditions and attractive employee benefits, including health insurance, a fitness center and a good lunch arrangement.
