Apply for the position

We are experiencing increasing market demand and are therefore seeking a lead specialist and subject matter expert in the design of coastal protection structures and hydrodynamic modelling. Is it you we are looking for?

Increased focus on coastal and climate tasks is primarily due to climate change with rising sea levels and more frequent extreme weather events, national and international sustainability goals, urbanization along coasts, as well as economic investments and stricter regulatory requirements. These factors create an increasing demand for specialized advisory in coastal protection and climate resilience.

At Sweco we actively want to take on these assignments, because we view them as meaningful, and because we believe it is crucial that the solutions are right. For us, it is about much more than technology – it is about protecting people and local communities, about preserving natural resources, and about creating safe and sustainable frameworks for life along the coasts. We take pride in being a sought-after and highly qualified advisor, contributing with both technical expertise and a holistic understanding in these society-critical processes.

Kyst & Klima is a highly specialized team at Sweco, which both has the expertise and the commitment to solve tasks from this particular starting point. We work with coastal and storm surge protection, from early sketch projects to completed facilities. In the team we work with authorities processes, risk mapping, design and modelling – and thus also constitute a support function to other teams in Sweco. In the team we also have a close international collaboration with our colleagues throughout the Sweco Group.

Freedom with responsibility describes daily leadership. With respect for our projects, collaboration partners and colleagues, we place emphasis on everyone contributing professionally as well as socially to deliver high project quality through a process that is both responsible and sustainable. We prefer to sit together in the office, as we believe and experience that it promotes our collaboration and supports the already good culture we want to uphold. With this as a starting point there are also frames for large degrees of freedom – both regarding working hours and office location.

About the position

As a lead specialist in Coastal & Climate you will have a combined role in professional leadership and project management on marine projects. You will also have a clear responsibility to coordinate technical questions with other disciplines such as harbours and civil works, marine environment and nature. Your primary tasks will be:

  • To function as lead specialist for coastal protection projects, marine projects and modelling tasks with a focus on technical expertise.
  • Project management and project coordination, including time and budget control.
  • To build and maintain strong relationships both internally in Sweco and externally with customers.

About you

We are looking for an engineer, geographer or equivalent who is passionate about the coast and wishes to contribute to a sustainable development of our coasts and communities. We prefer you to be structured and skilled in documentation. In addition, we expect you to have social, communicative and relational skills to engage in a sustainable collaboration with customers, partners and colleagues. Furthermore, we look for you who can contribute with the following:

  • Leading expertise within coastal protection and hydrodynamic modelling (waves, currents, water level).
  • Project management and resource coordination, including our colleagues in e.g. Sweco Sweden and the Netherlands.
  • Expertise in the design of coastal protection structures, sediment transport and coastal morphology.
  • A fundamental understanding of regulatory processes, the Water Framework Directive and similar legislation that governs and influences our projects.
  • Experience to draw on related to coastal & climate related issues.

You do not need to have experience in all of the above areas. The most important for us is that you have ambitions and a desire to develop into a good lead specialist. In addition, it is not a requirement but an advantage if you have:

  • Documented experience with hydrodynamic modelling (2D, 3D, waves, sediment transport) in software such as Telemac, Delft3D or MIKE3.
  • Documented experience with morphological analysis/modeling in 1D and 2D in software such as XBeach, LITPACK or ShorelineS.

Can you see yourself as part of Sweco?

Then send us your CV via the link below. We invite to interviews on an ongoing basis, and recommend that you apply as soon as possible. If you have questions about the position or Sweco, you are welcome to contact the Team Lead for Hydraulics, Coastal & Climate Emanuel Schmidt: [email protected]
