About the job

Solution Architect for DMI, Maps and Geodata

Do you want to help create the architectural building blocks and solution designs that we specify, design and build our IT solutions from? Can you support projects, development teams and suppliers in translating business requirements into solutions? Then the job as a solution architect at DMI, Maps and Geodata might be for you.

About the job and what you can expect

DMI and the Climate Data Agency are joining forces and will become DMI, Maps and Geodata on 1 December. Together we will take responsibility for a number of society-critical IT solutions and systems that must run 24/7. This includes the supercomputer infrastructure that we operate on behalf of a Northwest European collaboration, which every day produces weather forecasts for society, and the Data Distributor, which every day provides secure, stable and up-to-date fundamental data to both public and private entities.

We are therefore now looking for a solution architect who can help shape the reference architecture and translate it into concrete architectural building blocks and solution designs that can be used in the IT solutions we create in the new unified agency. We come from two different approaches, where one has been to develop and operate most things in-house, while the other has primarily focused on outsourced development and operations.

Going forward, we want to choose between in-house development, standard systems and supplier solutions based on requirements such as capability, availability and economy. This places, among others, requirements on our solutions to be based on standards and solution designs that support this, and this is where you and solution architecture come into play. You will become part of a new unit that will be responsible for IT architecture, technology roadmaps and implementation, as well as IT economics.

It is our plan that you will, among other things, work with

  • Supporting projects and development teams in translating business requirements into robust, secure and scalable solutions
  • Clarifying functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, availability, security and operation, for solutions with high up-time and data quality requirements
  • Developing architectural building blocks and solution designs, documenting architectural decisions and ensuring that solutions follow principles and standards and reuse common components and platforms
  • Assessing alternatives, including in-house development, standard systems and supplier solutions, and highlighting financial implications and technical risks
  • Being a technical sparring partner for projects, development teams and suppliers throughout the delivery, including estimation and planning
  • Contributing to technical requirements in tenders, evaluating supplier solutions and following up to ensure the delivered solution meets the requirements

About you and what you bring

The job is for you who have experience as a solution architect or developer with responsibility for larger solutions and are motivated by translating business requirements into concrete solutions that hold up in practice. You think from requirements and design to operation and enjoy working across projects, development teams and suppliers and being the link between them and the business.

We imagine that you bring some of the following qualifications with you

  • Relevant higher education in, e.g., computer science, software development or engineering
  • Solid technical knowledge of software development, integration patterns, data modeling and architectural patterns
  • Practical experience with cloud and platform technologies and good knowledge of operations, infrastructure, security and non-functional requirements
  • Experience with both developing in-house and collaborating with suppliers, preferably in an agile context
  • Experience with data- and compute-heavy solutions, e.g., geospatial data, weather and climate data, data distribution or HPC
  • Business understanding and ability to handle trade-offs between cost, time, quality and flexibility
  • Good communication skills and experience in leading technically across teams
