Maritime relations- and development officer – Eastern Denmark

Sømandsmissionen Application deadline: 31.01.27 Would you like to be close to the seafarers and at the same time help develop the future Sømandsmission?

From January 2027, Sømandsmissionen is seeking a new colleague for Eastern Denmark with a special combination of relational, diaconal work, maritime collaboration and development. You will get close to seafarers, fishers and international crews, while also playing a central role in developing, testing and implementing new ways to run Sømandsmissionen.

Our Christian purpose remains unchanged. We aim to meet the seafaring people with the gospel and with presence, care, hope and dignity. The shipping industry and the lives of seafarers are changing, and therefore the way we realise our purpose must continually develop.

We are therefore looking for a person who can both build trusting relationships with people and translate ideas and strategic directions into concrete action.

The role

An important part of your work takes place close to the seafarers. You visit ships and ports, build relationships and are available for confidential conversations about faith, life, well-being and existence. You will also have a special development responsibility. Together with the secretary general, management and your colleagues, you will help translate Sømandsmissionen's strategic development into new concepts and ways of working – and, not least, make them function in practice.

You will thereby become an important bridge between what we already do well and what Sømandsmissionen needs to be able to do in the future.

Your tasks

• to visit ships and ports and build long-term relationships with seafarers and fishers
• in collaboration with voluntary coordinator, to develop and establish a network of volunteers for Sømandsmissionen's work. This also includes working with new concepts and ways of working within volunteering.
• to have conversations about faith, life, well-being and existential questions
• to develop, test and implement new concepts and ways of working
• to build relationships and partnerships with shipping companies, ports, HR, agents and other maritime actors
• to explore new physical and digital ways of being present around seafarers
• to contribute to the development of Sømandsmissionen's shared professional community
• to document experiences and learning so that good solutions can be further developed and used elsewhere in the organization
• to collaborate with Hotel Bethel and your other colleagues in Sømandsmissionen
• to participate in Sømandsmissionen's preaching, information and dissemination work.

Who are you?

Your Christian faith is personally anchored and guiding for your life, and you can identify with Sømandsmissionen's purpose and Christian view of people. You are empathic and strong in your dealings with people, but at the same time curious about how organizations, working methods and systems can be developed. You can go aboard a ship and create a trusting relationship – and you can sit at a table with a shipping company or a partner and develop something new together with them.

You thrive with freedom and responsibility, can translate ideas into action and are willing to test something that may not be fully developed in advance. You speak good English and thrive in international and intercultural environments. Experience with e.g. project management, advisory work, social work or the maritime sector would be an advantage, but we do not expect you to know everything from the outset.

A driving license is a necessity.

The position has its primary area of work in Eastern Denmark, and residence on Zealand is necessary.
