Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq is seeking a skilled, engaged and versatile music teacher for Sermersooq Music School in Nuuk with commencement (to be determined).

Who are we

Sermersooq Music School is part of Leisure and Culture, which is part of the Department of Children and School. We offer free music education in instruments, singing, choir and ensemble – both individually and in groups – to children and young people in the municipality.

At the Music School we emphasize creating an inspiring and inclusive music environment where children and young people have the opportunity to develop their musicality, creativity and joy in playing music. As an employee you will be part of a small music-focused team where there is room for different competencies, ideas and initiatives.

We collaborate with local actors and institutions, including primary schools and day cares. Throughout the year we carry out various projects, workshops and concerts, where there is the possibility to work with local actors as well as external guest musicians and teachers.

Sermersooq Music School consists of permanently employed music teachers and hourly teachers who together create the framework for teaching and the school's other activities.

Position content

We are looking for an engaged, professionally skilled and versatile music teacher who wishes to teach children and young people and to help develop Sermersooq Music School. You have strong music discipline skills and an interest in music education and in creating good musical experiences together with the students.

As a music teacher you will have the opportunity to influence both your own teaching and the Music School's professional development. We emphasize that you can work independently, but at the same time are eager to actively participate in collaboration with your colleagues and our local partners.

Your main tasks will include, among others

∙Music teaching of children and young people, both individually and in groups

∙Independent planning and organization of the teaching

∙Contributing to the development of the Music School's subjects and teaching offerings

∙Planning and execution of student concerts, projects and workshops

∙Participation in projects and activities with local actors as well as external guest musicians and instructors

∙Collaboration with, among others, primary schools, day cares, leisure clubs and other local actors

∙Practical and administrative tasks related to teaching and the Music School's activities

∙Other relevant tasks related to the Music School's work

Tasks are performed in close cooperation with the Music School's leader, colleagues and relevant local partners.

We expect that you

∙Have a music-related or other relevant education

∙Have the desire to teach and work pedagogically with children and young people at different ages and levels

∙Can plan and conduct teaching both individually and in groups

∙Have a clear and engaging approach to teaching and can create a safe and inspiring learning environment

∙Are flexible and can adapt to different students, teaching methods and tasks

∙Want to actively contribute to the Music School's professional development, projects, concerts and other activities

∙Work independently and responsibly while thriving on collaboration with colleagues and other partners

It is an advantage if you

∙Have a teacher education, music education degree or experience teaching children and young people

∙Can play and teach one or more instruments

∙Have experience with ensemble playing, choir, concerts, workshops or other musical projects

Criminal and Child Protection Background Check

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child protection background checks. In accordance with the law, employment may only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child protection checks. We therefore note that the start date can only be agreed after the municipality has received a child protection certificate from the National Police and a criminal record from the Police.

The child protection certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, where the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and terms of employment

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Greenland Self-Government, pursuant to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Greenland Self-Government and the relevant negotiating organization.

Employment will be with a 3-month probationary period.
