About the job

Would you like to help set the direction of the music at Risskov Church – and create musical experiences that bring people together across generations?

We are seeking an engaged and musically well-founded organist for a part-time position of 19 hours per week with commencement on January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

As our new organist you will become part of a lively musical environment where, in close collaboration with the church’s full-time organist, you will have the opportunity to influence and further develop the church’s musical profile. We place emphasis on musical quality, engagement and the desire to explore the many possibilities of music in the life of the church.

About Risskov Parish and Church

Risskov is an attractive suburb of Aarhus with around 8,600 inhabitants, of whom about 6,900 are members of the Church of Denmark. The parish is growing, and continued population growth is expected in the coming years.

Risskov Church is beautifully situated on Solbakken with a stunning view over the Aarhus Bay towards Djursland. The church has an associated parish hall and churchyard and enjoys great interest and support from the parishioners.

In addition to services and church rites, the church life offers a wide range of meetings and events, including concerts and musical services.

Beside the church there are 2.75 priests and an experienced choir consisting of eight part-time singers – a double quartet.

About the organ

The church organ was built by Marcussen & Son in 1978 and has 31 stops distributed over the principal manual, the swell manual and the pedal, as well as four sets with 2,000 combination presets.

In interaction with the church’s fine acoustics, the instrument provides good opportunities for musical expression and makes it possible to work with almost all musical styles.

Your tasks

As organist you will have a daily life with both traditional church-music tasks and the opportunity to put your own mark on the church’s musical activities.

Your main tasks will be to

  • Play at services, religious ceremonies and meetings, and lead the church’s professional choir.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing musical activities for children and families.
  • Participate in planning concerts and musical services.
  • Help develop and strengthen the musical environment in close collaboration with the church’s other organist.
  • Mutual substitute obligation with the church’s full-time organist.

We are looking for you who ..

We imagine that you are musically well-founded and eager to bring your competencies and ideas into play in an active church life.

We place particular emphasis on

  • Having a high musical professional level and experience with choral leadership.
  • Having a desire to work with and include different musical genres.
  • Having understanding of and empathy for the church year’s rhythm and the liturgy of worship.
  • Being inviting and open in collaboration with the church’s clergy, other staff, vestry and parishioners.
  • Being passionate about strengthening the joy of singing and music in both children and adults.
  • Having a desire to develop and explore music so that it supports the church’s preaching and the parish’s many activities.

We hope you will help create musical communities and experiences that make a difference for people of all ages.
