Organist sought for Hans Egedes Parish in Østerbro and Nordhavn

We are seeking an organist who has enthusiasm, energy and courage to develop a strong musical environment in the parish. There are good opportunities to develop and build the church's music life, including a new professional choir. We have a high musical ambition level and a musically interested congregation.

The position is a full-time position at 37 hours per week and is desired to be filled by January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

What do we value?

Professionally

You are a classically trained organist from the conservatory (DOKS) or with another equivalent education. You play the various genres of church music, you are open to other service formats in collaboration with the priests, and you accompany on piano, for example to songs from the Folk High School Songbook.

You are familiar with the liturgy, have respect for the church music tradition and a view to development.

You understand the liturgical and musical whole of the service and will be open to co-creation with the priests.

You have skills for and experience with choir leadership.

If you have concert experience as organist or pianist and skills in composition and improvisation, that would be an advantage.

Organizational

You are flexible regarding working hours and prepared to work at two different locations: Hans Egedes Church on Østerbro and the new church space Tiny Church in Fiskerihavnen in Nordhavn.

Social

You engage in the life and daily life of the church and want to be part of a fruitful professional community across professional groups.

Development-wise

You have visions for the church musical development both in Hans Egedes Church and in Tiny Church in the new district.

The organist's duties will include, among other things

• have overall responsibility for the music in the parish
• to provide musical accompaniment to services and church acts
• participate in services in the Faroese congregation at Hans Egedes Church on the first and third Sunday of each month at 14:00
• develop and plan the church's concert program, possibly also as a performing musician
• be responsible for caring for and maintaining the churches' instruments
• administer the parish's concert budget
• conduct and be the immediate supervisor for the church choir and the Faroese church singers
• participate in relevant events, meetings and committees.

There is also the possibility to develop musical initiatives and events depending on the applicant's interests and competences.

The parish consists of Hans Egedes Church on Østerbro and the new church space Tiny Church/Tolvkanten in Nordhavn. There are 11,500 inhabitants, and there is significant cultural potential among the residents. The new district in Nordhavn is under strong development.

The organ in Hans Egedes Church was built by Gunnar Fabricius Husted in 1984, has 22 stops, 2 manuals and pedal, distributed over main manual, swell with 2 swell boxes and pedal. The organ is a very well-sounding and versatile instrument, and the church's acoustics are ideal for both organ and choral music.

In the church there is also a well-sounding Blüthner grand piano, and the church has another grand piano and several upright pianos.

In Tiny Church-Tolvkanten there is currently a Hammond organ, which could be supplemented with an upright piano.

The parish has two priests as well as a priest for the Faroese congregation and a staff team with a daily manager. The team consists of church wardens, church and culture workers, sexton, organist and four singers. Hans Egedes Church is the home of the Faroese Saint Olav Congregation.

The parish council can state that references and a child safety certificate will be obtained in connection with employment. There is a three-month probationary period.

Salary and employment conditions

Hiring an organist with a master’s degree in church music or bachelor’s degree (DOKS) will be covered by the Agreement for academics in the state with accompanying protocol on the employment of DOKS organists as well as principals and permanent teachers at church music schools in the folk church area. Placement and allowance are given according to seniority on the new salary/AC scale, and the annual salary for applicants with a master’s degree is between 363,169 and 442,529 DKK.

For applicants with a bachelor’s degree the salary is between 332,306 and 417,106 DKK annually. The availability allowance is between 46,727 and 72,573 DKK annually for both candidates and bachelors.

In addition, employer-paid pension contributions of 18.07% of salary and 12.5% of the availability allowance are provided.

Hiring an organist with degree in organ and choir leadership will be covered by Agreement between City, County and Ministry of Church Affairs and CO10 for certain organists. Annual salary on the first basic pay grade is 350,4355 DKK and on the second basic pay grade 368,189 DKK annually. The availability allowance is 37,941 DKK annually.

In addition, employer-paid pension contributions of 18.4% are provided.

Hiring a church musician will be covered by Joint Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and CO10 and the Organizational Agreement between the Ministry of Church Affairs and CO10 – Central Organization of 2010 - for church functionaries with core tasks such as sexton, church and culture worker or church musician and the accompanying protocol for church musicians. An agreement on placement in the wage interval is reached between the parish council and the Danish Church Musicians Association.

The annual salary for a church musician is agreed within the interval 333,748 – 475,590 DKK. The availability allowance is 27,641 DKK annually. Finally an OK allowance of 1,082 DKK annually.

In addition, employer-paid pension contributions of 18.4% are provided.
