About the job

Would you like to help make a difference in everyday life for children and youth with special needs – and have a job where presence, care and good relationships are at the center?

At Nygården we are looking for a pedagogical assistant who wants to be an important part of the children's everyday life and help create safety, joy and good experiences together with them.

With us you get the opportunity to get close to each individual child. We often work 1–1 or with a few children at a time, which provides time for presence, immersion and to get to know the child really well.

You will become part of a strong collegial community where we help each other, share our experiences and stand together on the tasks – also when everyday life is challenging.

You do not need to have a pedagogical education. The most important thing is that you want to work with children and young people with special needs, are curious and have heart in the work.

What will you do? "I appreciate the variety in the pedagogical work. There are days with time for immersion when the work is 1–1, and other days when I am in more relationships."

  • Pedagogue at Nygården

At Nygården we typically work 6 staff members together around 8 children and young people. You will often focus on 1–2 children at a time.

This gives you the opportunity to build a close relationship with the child, learn their needs and help create a safe and recognizable everyday life.

A workday can include, among other things

  • Presence and care: You are with the children, create safety and help them with everyday small and large challenges.
  • Play and activities: You help create good experiences through, for example, trampoline, swing, creative activities, walks, music or trips out of the house.
  • Structure and predictability: You help the children follow their daily routines and support them in understanding what will happen.
  • Support in everyday life: You help the children with meals, personal care, dressing and other daily chores.
  • Calm and safety: You learn to understand the children's signals and help them find calm when something becomes difficult.
  • Collaboration: You work closely with your colleagues and participate in the joint planning and professional reflection around the children.

You will become an important part of the child's entire daily life, where both small moments and big experiences matter.

And you will not be alone with the tasks. We help each other and ensure that you are well introduced to the work and to the individual child.

Nygården is the children's home "I am daily professionally challenged in our cross-professional learning community, which is characterized by care and an appreciative approach to the target group."

  • Pedagogue at Nygården

At Nygården the relationship to the children is the most important foundation for our work.

We believe that everyone does the best they can, and we are curious about what lies behind the child's behavior.

Some children need a lot of structure and predictability, while others need special support to find calm, communicate or participate in activities.

We work from pedagogical methods such as neuro-pedagogy and Low Arousal. You do not need to know these beforehand – we will help you learn them.

But Nygården is not only a workplace.

It is the children's home

Therefore there should also be room for laughter, play, coziness, music and good experiences. We dance, joke, go on trips and create a daily life where the children experience safety, joy and community.

As a pedagogical assistant you help make that daily life possible.

What do you get with us? We know that a good working life also includes having a life outside of work.

With us you get

  • A meaningful job where you make a difference for the children every single day.
  • Time for presence and immersion with the individual child.
  • Nice and helpful colleagues who share their experience and knowledge.
  • A thorough introduction to the work and a mentor who helps you get started.
  • Opportunity to learn about special pedagogy, neuro-pedagogy and Low Arousal.
  • Professional sparring and supervision.
  • A strong collegial community where we help each other.
  • Shifting working hours with the possibility of flexibility in the duty roster.
  • Work every other weekend.
  • A daily life where there is room for professional development, humor and good experiences.

Who are you? "We have a really good collegial spirit. It is both fun, exciting and demanding to work here."

  • Pedagogue at Nygården

  • Would like to learn new things and take guidance from your colleagues.
  • Are good at collaborating and contribute positively to the community.
  • Are prepared to participate in personal care and practical tasks.
  • Have a driving license.

You do not need to be able to do everything from the first day of work.

About Nygården Nygården is one of the four special children's homes in Region North Jutland.

Here live 6 children permanently, and 6 children come for respite. The children and young people have various physical and mental functional impairments and need support in everyday life – some for most of it, others for all of it.

The children can, among other things, have autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and attachment disorders.

Several of the children have little or no verbal language. Therefore we also use pictures, signs and other forms of communication so the children have the best possible chances to express themselves.

Common for the children is that they need a safe, recognizable and structured daily life with adults who meet them with care, understanding and clarity.

We work closely in a multidisciplinary team with one shared goal: To give the children and young people a safe, meaningful and developing everyday life.
