Internship for the Mayor's Secretariat in Aarhus Municipality
About the Job
Would you like to try your hand at secretariat support up close to the top political leadership in Aarhus?
As an intern with us you become part of the day-to-day around the mayor and the city manager in Aarhus Municipality. You will gain unique insight into what it means to work in a large, politically governed organization, where you get very close to how political decisions become reality. You also gain insight into a magistrate-governed municipality and experience in what it means to work as a civil servant in the public administration.
You will become part of the Secretariat, Projects and Analysis in the Mayor's Department, which supports the mayor and the city manager in their daily work. Here you will be part of the secretariat's shared office with professionally skilled and engaged colleagues, where the political reality helps make everyday life exciting and dynamic. You can therefore expect a wide range of tasks, including:
- Preparation of meetings and agendas
- Handling of citizen inquiries
- Letter and speech writing
- Political case handling and project work
- Background notes
- Other tasks that arise when the political agenda changes
You will be part of an inclusive working environment, where there is an easygoing atmosphere, support and sparring. We have an informal tone and a strong collegial community. In addition to our own team of political consultants, you will sit close to the Communications Department, where there will also be an intern. You will also have a designated mentor who acts as your sparring partner throughout the internship.
Your profile
You thrive in a daily life influenced by current events with significance for Aarhus Municipality – and where you take on tasks with importance for the municipality's residents. You likely have a social science or communications angle in your studies. We imagine that you are politically interested, have analytical acuity and understand how to apply your knowledge to your tasks. We also are looking for an intern who is good at talking to different people, and who meets new tasks with a smile.
We imagine that
- You are a graduate student in a social science or humanities program or HA
- You have an interest in societal issues and politics
- You want to work with political servicing and public administration
- You are engaged, responsible and proactive
- You can work in a structured and independent manner
- You enjoy collaborating, communicating and helping others
Why choose us
As an intern you will
- Insight into a large, politically governed organization
- A good understanding of public administration in practice
- An exciting workplace where no two weeks are the same

- Insight into major political agendas
- Professional sparring and development, as well as a fixed mentor throughout the internship.
Salary and terms of employment
Salary and terms of employment will be in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. You will be an intern 30 hours per week, and in addition there is an option to supplement the 30 hours of internship with 7 hours of paid work as a student assistant. The tasks are the same.
This is a fixed-term position from February 1, 2027 to June 25, 2027.
