About the job

Internship for the council secretariat in Technical and Environment with a focus on mobility and urban space

Do you want to try your hand at secretariat support very close to the highest political leadership in Technical and Environment? Are you crazy about finding political footholds, qualifying decision proposals and writing arguments that are razor sharp?

Are you a political science student or currently pursuing a social science education and do you have energy, drive and the desire to make a difference in the Technical and Environment council secretariat? Then we hope to hear from you!

We are currently seeking an intern to

  • Assist the Alderman and the Management in Technical and Environment, as well as the Urban and Planning Committee within mobility and urban space in close collaboration with our political advisers in the area.

About the internship

We will ensure that you are introduced to the work in a politically led organization and trained in our working procedures and tools, so you get a good start. Two political advisers will act as your mentors and sparring partners and during the internship they will guide, advise and support your development based on your study plan and competencies.

You should be prepared to be part of a daily life that is influenced by current events with significance for Aarhus Municipality – and you will undertake tasks with significance for the municipality's citizens and businesses.

You likely have a social science education and we imagine that you are interested in politics, have analytical insight and understand how to apply your knowledge in your tasks.

We are looking for you who

  • Are studying to become a political scientist or another relevant social science discipline with a special interest in politics
  • Want to work in a politically led organization
  • Have a flair for writing
  • Have a sharp analytical mind and political acumen
  • Are curious to test theory in practice
  • Are open to collaborating with others
  • Communicate fluently in Danish, both in writing and speaking

What your day will look like

You will become an integrated part of our cross-disciplinary council secretariat, which consists of skilled and engaged colleagues. We work with varying tasks e.g.:

  • Political case processing and project work
  • Preparation of meetings and agendas
  • Letter and speech writing
  • Background notes

You will gain insight into a large, politically led organization, a good understanding of public administration in practice at an exciting workplace with great importance for all Aarhusians.

Many of our tasks are solved in collaboration with other departments, so you can look forward to sparring with colleagues and professional specialists in the rest of Technical and Environment's organization, totaling 1,500 people.

As an intern in the Council Secretariat, you will be part of Technical and Environment at the City Hall in Aarhus, but you will also have one day a week in Technical and Environment's headquarters in the Blixens office building in Brabrand near Aarhus, together with your mentors.

There is unpaid internship from 8 weeks up to 6 months with a weekly working time of 30-37 hours as a starting point. Flexible working hours are possible, and we take study activities into account.

Other about the internship placement

  • For the dedicated student there may be the possibility of a study job after the internship
  • There is free coffee and a good canteen (payable)
  • There is an opportunity for social fellowship with other interns in the Council Secretariat, as we are overall seeking two interns this spring.

If you want to hear more about the internship program, you are welcome to contact the two political advisers in the area respectively Signe Wulff Kelstrup at tel. 41 85 51 41 or Mikkel Underlin Østergaard at tel. 28 12 26 98.
