About the job

Do you want to make a difference for children and young people with severe visual impairment, their parents and for professionals who work with the target group? Are you motivated by strong professional communities where there is room to think big and great flexibility? Do you want the best opportunities for professional development and to work closely with some of Denmark's most skilled and dedicated specialists? Then you should apply for the vacant position as a psychologist at Synscenter Refsnæs.

Synscenter Refsnæs is the national resource and knowledge center for special education for children and young people with visual impairment. Synscenter Refsnæs works evidence-based and interdisciplinary with development, learning, well-being and citizenship for the target group in a nationwide collaboration. The center has a nationwide function and offers a wide range of interdisciplinary specialized advice, assessment, courses, material production and dissemination, knowledge work as well as tariff-based services within teaching, education and residential care.

Synscenter Refsnæs delivers, in collaboration with municipal visual consultants, a highly specialized offering to children and young people with severe visual impairment, their families and professionals around the child/young person. We supplement and support the municipalities’ and the local visual consultants’ work with inclusion and rehabilitation. We use ICF and the “Expanded Learning Objectives” (DUL) as a framework. We collaborate in a resource-oriented manner with the families and local professionals we advise.

We are seeking a psychologist for a cross-professional effort for children and young people who have severe visual impairment, including blindness. The position is organizationally located in Special Advisory. Here, visual consultants work with a special pedagogical and teaching background, psychologists, pedagogical-psychological consultant, occupational and physiotherapists, science consultants and graphic designers.

Special Advisory is organized into three teams; Team Infants, Team School-Age Children and Young People, and Materials Team. This position is organizationally placed in Special Advisory’s Team School-Age Children and Young People, which primarily handles tasks for children and young people in the target group aged 6-17. In Special Advisory there is close cross-disciplinary collaboration across the three teams. There is good flexibility in planning one’s own work.

Synscenter Refsnæs is the country’s VISO provider in the field of child vision. You will as a psychologist in Special Advisory contribute to referral, assessment, special consultation and supervision in collaboration with the other professional groups of Special Advisory. In addition to being part of Special Advisory’s School Team, you will also join a professionally strong psychology group consisting of a total of three psychologists and a pedagogical-psychological consultant.

You will also become part of a national network and a Nordic network, where experiences are exchanged for the benefit of the target group.

We expect that you have experience with assessment and preferably experience with or knowledge of the specialized social/pedagogical area as well as experience with assessment and evaluation of functional level, developmental age and socio-emotional skills. We also expect that you have experience with psychological testing, including for example Bayley, Wechsler scales of intelligence (WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WAIS-IV) and possibly D-KEFS and TOMAL2.

You will work closely with Synscenter Refsnæs’ various users and stakeholders, including municipalities/communication centers and international partners. We therefore expect you to work independently and in a structured manner, have flair for oral and written communication and counseling, and have strong collaboration skills.

The task is partly carried out at Synscenter Refsnæs and partly locally in the child’s surroundings across the country. The center has about 120 employees and is located in a very scenic area by Kalundborg Fjord.

You are very welcome to call the department head Mads Røn at tel. 24 41 89 06, if you wish to hear more about the position.
