About the job

Stormwater and wastewater employee sought for Helsingør Municipality

Would you like to work with some of the major water issues – and at the same time be part of a workplace where professionalism, relationships and job satisfaction go hand in hand?

In Helsingør Municipality we are strengthening the stormwater and wastewater area with an extra colleague.

We are well underway with climate adapting the historic city center and our sewer system, making room for new homes and urban areas, and at the same time we must take better care of our water environment. We need to reduce overflows to the recipient, handle more rain in a dense city, and find solutions that work technically, environmentally, and practically.

There is plenty to tackle, and therefore we are looking for you who already have experience with wastewater, rainwater, or related areas – or you who have the professional foundation and the talent to quickly become very good at it.

Professional competence is important, and you must be able to thrive in regulatory work. But it is at least as important for us how you are as a colleague and collaboration partner.

Wastewater is an important part of the city’s development

Yes, it is actually fundamental to a well-functioning city.

How do we handle more rain in a dense city? How do we create room for new homes and businesses without burdening the water environment? And how do we ensure that new and existing discharges meet the environmental requirements?

These are some of the questions you will work with.

A everyday life with professionalism, variety and meaning

You will become part of Nature, Water and Climate in the Center for City, Land and Water with three close professional colleagues. In addition, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across the rest of the municipality and of course with Forsyning Helsingør, citizens, advisors and companies.

You will work with both new and existing discharges, and you must be able to handle complex environmental data and translate them into concrete regulatory assessments. Hazardous pollutants are increasingly filling the agenda, and we must be able to relate to a wide range of substances and their significance for the recipient.

Depending on your experience and competencies you can, among other things, work with

  • permits for discharges, connections and infiltration
  • stormwater and surface water in urban development and larger projects
  • reduction of overflows and impact on the water environment and environmental goals
  • hazardous pollutants and complex environmental assessments
  • wastewater in the open countryside and from industry
  • dialogue with citizens, companies, advisors and authorities.

We tailor the tasks to the profile we hire. If you have solid experience, you will take responsibility for more complex cases. If you have shorter experience but the right professional foundation and drive, you will have the opportunity to develop into the tasks.

Authority – but also a teammate

We are an authority, and our decisions must of course be professionally and legally sound. But at the same time we believe that good governance is about more than rules and decisions.

It is also about people, citizen contact and dialogue with applicants.

It is about being able to listen, be clear and understand others’ perspectives. About being able to stand by a professional assessment while being curious whether there is a better solution. And about contributing to making good projects succeed within the applicable framework.

In Helsingør Municipality we work purposefully with relational capacity – and we take that seriously. For us that means that strong relationships, trust and the ability to collaborate across boundaries are not optional but a prerequisite for success.

Therefore you must be able to navigate an organization with many professional disciplines and be good at building relationships, supporting networks and engaging both colleagues and external actors to find solutions, while being professionally clear.

We are not only looking for the right professional expertise. We are also looking for the right colleague.

Who are you?

You could be an engineer, biologist or have another relevant technical or natural science education.

We would like you to have relevant experience from, for example, a municipality, utility or consultancy. But we are also interested in you with less experience if you have a strong professional foundation and a desire to learn.

We especially emphasize that you

  • have interest in and preferably experience with the wastewater area
  • have technical and natural science understanding and can work with complex problems
  • can translate professional knowledge and legislation into concrete regulatory assessments and solutions
  • work in a structured way and can stand behind your professional assessments
  • meet colleagues, citizens, advisors and partners in a proper and curious manner
  • are good at creating relationships and want to succeed together with others
  • communicate properly and clearly, and want to collaborate.
  • contribute to the community – both professionally and humanly.

Experience with municipal regulatory processing, the Environmental Protection Act or hazardous pollutants is a plus, but we do not expect you to know it all from the first day of work.

Why you should choose us

We have big ambitions for nature, the water environment and climate in Helsingør Municipality. But we also have ambitions for the way we go to work.

In Nature, Environment and Climate you will become part of a professionally strong and socially well-functioning community with about 27 dedicated colleagues. We have high professional standards, trust in each other and ambitions for both the environment and for job satisfaction.

We help each other, and we mean it when we say that helpfulness and good relationships are an investment in both quality and job satisfaction.

With us you get

  • opportunity to work with large and current agendas within water, climate and urban development
  • a job where your assessments and solutions make a concrete difference
  • skilled colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge
  • good opportunities for professional development
  • great freedom and trust to plan your own work
  • a strong work community with room for both professional discussions and humor.

And we work right in the middle of Helsingør – in a city with historic surroundings, the sea just around the corner and some rather interesting challenges when water, climate and urban development must come together in a higher unity.

We work activity-based and without fixed desks – that is something you must be able to thrive in.
