About the job

A position as an unclassified-reserve physician at Regionshospitalet Hammel Neurocenter’s ward S6 for Children and Young People is available for filling on December 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is 37 hours per week and runs for 1 year.

As a reserve physician at Hammel Neurocenter’s ward S6, you will become part of the overall medical group at Hammel Neurocenter, which has a dynamic education- and research-oriented early-career medical environment, with neurological training physicians and a clinical supervisory team consisting of neurological and neuro-surgical specialists. On S6 you will work with an engaged multidisciplinary team with particular knowledge of neurorehabilitation for children and adolescents.

We view the position as an excellent supplement to a potential introductory pediatric rotation, or as a clarification of interest in relation to the pediatric specialty area.

The clinical tasks

The ward has capacity for 7 children and adolescents. When there are not enough children and adolescents for admission, adults will also be admitted to the department.

The reserve physician will do ward rounds, admit new patients, and participate in multidisciplinary collaboration around the patients on S6 with nurses, therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, and neuropsychologists. Rehabilitation work is based on a holistic approach to the patient and their relatives, where patient involvement in their own rehabilitation is an important factor.

There is currently 1 senior physician (neuro-pediatrician) on the S6 ward, and at Hammel Neurocenter in general there are 17 specialists from various fields with close cooperation and sparring regarding each other’s specialty areas. During employment you will be affiliated with S6, and the daily work will take place in close collaboration with the specialist who manages the patient pathways.

In collaboration with the specialist, tasks will be distributed according to the professional competencies you bring with you. Your individual development during the employment will be prioritized and your interests will be supported as you gain insight into the neurorehabilitation field and children and young people.

There will always be great attention to ensuring alignment between competencies, tasks, and your personal capacity, as we believe that job satisfaction and security in solving tasks are prerequisites for well-being and good task execution.

Eight weeks per semester will involve medical students in clinical placements. Part of the responsibilities of the junior doctors is to help incoming colleagues adjust and provide them with a positive experience during their clinical placement in specialized neurorehabilitation.

The position includes the possibility of participating in on-call duties with an experienced specialist as back-up once adequate competencies are achieved.

Research task at Hammel Neurocenter

As a highly specialized Neurorehabilitation hospital and University Clinic under Aarhus University, there is, as a natural part of RHN, extensive research activity with multidisciplinary, including medical, participation. Although the current position does not allocate time for continuous research, there is ample opportunity to dabble in research and become acquainted with the medical research field within Neurorehabilitation.

For the right applicant, based on a relevant research idea and research ambition, there will be an opportunity to initiate a process for drafting a project description and a fundraising process.

The research activity or project description should be based on the patient group at RHN and, as far as possible, be clinically oriented. There will be the possibility for close sparring with clinically and research-experienced colleagues in the process.
