About the job

Do you want to lead a well-functioning unit where present management, cross-sector collaboration and safe operation go hand in hand?

Do you want to lead an experienced and autonomous group of employees across several specialties? Do you thrive with, and are you capable of, complex coordination, cross-department and campus collaboration and a everyday life where tasks are diverse? And are you motivated to create good patient pathways, develop the employees and safeguard a good working environment?

So you may be our new chief nurse (leading senior nurse) at the Day Hospital in Grindsted with appointment on 1 January 2027 or by agreement.

About the Day Hospital in Grindsted

The Day Hospital in Grindsted is a smaller, cross-cutting unit that brings together outpatient functions from six specialties: plastic surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, pulmonary medicine, endocrinology and cardiology.

Ambulatories are open on weekdays between 8:00 and 18:00. In addition, we run an injury clinic and a GP on-call function, which is staffed all seven days a week from 7:45–22:15 by treatment nurses from the orthopedic specialty.

We are 20 engaged and experienced staff - 19 nurses and one social and healthcare assistant - who are physically located in one department at Grindsted Hospital. The staff primarily work within their own specialty, but also collaborate across specialties when it makes sense and creates value.

The Day Hospital also houses a DEXA scanner and a dietitian function, handled by the endocrinology specialty in Esbjerg.

We see daily between 100 and 150 patients through our functions. The nurses' tasks range from independent outpatient consultations to assistance during local anesthesia procedures.

Organizationally, the Day Hospital is anchored in the Department of Cardiac Diseases. Daily operations require close coordination and effective collaboration with the other departmental leaderships and their staff.

This means you will have a central role in creating coherence across specialties, professional groups, campuses and leaderships. You will therefore need to thrive in building relationships, finding common solutions and navigating different needs and interests. The position involves meeting activity in Esbjerg and thus also driving between campuses.

We have low staff turnover, a good working environment and a culture where community, helpfulness and good humor are a natural part of daily life. We want to preserve and develop this with you as leader.

Your role and your opportunities

As chief nurse you will have a varied leadership assignment where you must both ensure stable daily operations and create the framework for professional development, well-being and good patient pathways.

You will have the opportunity to set direction for a well-functioning unit with competent and autonomous staff. At the same time you will be part of a larger leadership community with a broad collaboration network across the hospital.

We offer you

  • An varied leadership job with great variation and the opportunity to influence daily operations and the development of the Day Hospital.
  • An experienced, competent and autonomous staff group.
  • A broad collaboration network and the opportunity to build relationships and networks across the hospital.
  • A thorough introduction to your leadership and operational tasks.
  • Ongoing sparring with your immediate supervisor and your leadership colleagues.

Who are you?

We are seeking a leader who can create direction and following through trust, clarity and involvement. You are focused on both people, professionalism and operations, and can navigate safely between the different considerations that shape a cross-disciplinary function.

We imagine that you

  • Can balance governance and leadership and know that both are necessary to create a well-functioning unit.
  • Thrive in leading experienced and autonomous staff and can create followership without compromising their professional autonomy.
  • Are empathetic, listening and trust-building and meet staff with respect, openness and curiosity.
  • Have an inclusive and appreciative leadership style, where dialogue, involvement and clear communication are central elements.
  • Can motivate staff, follow up on agreements and translate good intentions into concrete actions.
  • Have good collaboration skills and can build relationships and create solutions across professional groups, specialties, campuses and departmental leaderships.
  • Have a view for stable operations, patient satisfaction, staff well-being and ongoing improvements.
  • Are development-oriented and can facilitate processes with the Southern Denmark Improvement Model as a framework for quality development and improvement work.
  • Can translate strategic and political decisions into clear and meaningful goals that staff can see themselves in.
  • Are flexible and willing to help in clinical settings during peak load or illness when the situation requires it.

We would like you to have leadership experience and a relevant leadership education. If you do not yet have a leadership education, we expect you to be willing to commence a relevant program at master’s or equivalent level.
