About the job

Would you lead a team of project managers and help set the direction for construction and renovation projects in one of Denmark's most complex hospital organizations?

As head of professional area for projects you will have the professional and personnel responsibility for the project team in Operations and Buildings at Rigshospitalet.

Your most important task will be to create the frameworks that enable the project managers to succeed. You must be close enough to the projects to challenge, spar, and help with prioritizations, but your primary responsibility is to lead people and ensure quality and progress across the entire project portfolio.

You report to the property manager and will be part of the local leadership together with the deputy property manager and the other professional leaders.

People and project leadership

The project team carries out construction and renovation projects on Rigshospitalet's properties. The projects must be carried out in a hospital reality where daily operations continue while buildings are built, changed and developed around it.

This places demands on both project management and collaboration with the rest of the organization. As head of profession you shall help the project managers navigate this complexity. You create clear frameworks, follow up on the key projects and help make prioritizations that ensure the team's time and competencies are used correctly.

Your main tasks will be to

  • Lead and develop the project team through professional sparring, clear expectations and ongoing follow-up
  • Ensure quality and progress in the project portfolio with a view to economy, schedules and risks
  • Create good frames for prioritization and resource allocation across projects
  • Strengthen collaboration between the project area, the technical operations, support functions and the hospital's other stakeholders
  • Contribute to common methods, workflows and quality in the way the projects are carried out

You are not alone with the overview of the portfolio. A professional coordinator works closely with you on prioritization and coordination, so you can focus on leading the team and the professional development of the project area.

You will also become an important sparring partner for the property manager and the deputy property manager and must be able to give a clear picture of how the projects are developing, and where there is a need for decisions or special attention.

You have experience with construction projects and a desire to lead

You come with solid experience from construction projects and project management and understand what it takes to get complex projects safely from decision to handover.

It is an advantage if you have already led project managers or other professionally strong employees. The most important is, however, that you have leadership experience and are motivated to create results through others.

You do not need to be the project manager who sits deepest in all details. On the other hand, you must be able to ask the right questions, challenge constructively and help the project managers find their way when projects become complex.

Experience with public client function, procurement, contracts and project follow-up will be relevant because it is part of the reality you enter.

A leader who creates followership

You thrive on being close to both people and projects.

As a leader you are clear about direction and expectations, but you also give employees space to use their professionalism and take responsibility.

You must be able to gather different perspectives and create progress, even when interests do not necessarily point in the same direction from the start.

At the same time you have an eye for the development of the team. Competences, well-being and professional sparring are not something ancillary to the projects. It is a prerequisite for the team to deliver strong results over time.

A central role in Operations and Buildings at Rigshospitalet

Operations and Buildings work with the physical framework around Rigshospitalet. This means that the projects are carried out in an environment where buildings and technical installations have a direct impact on the hospital's ability to function.

As head of projects you therefore take on a role with many interfaces. You come close to both the technical operations, the hospital's organization, advisors and contractors and you are simultaneously part of the leadership that must ensure coherence across.

Your primary workplace will be Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, and you will also have working days on the campus in Glostrup.
