About the job

At Danish MLD prepare to revolutionize the fishing industry. The first stage of an innovative trawling system with drones has already been launched. But the next stage requires help from a service engineer who, together with management, can shape a completely new department, and who is passionate about sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions, and can see themselves fighting to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

It is about far more than profit optimization when the world's commercial fishermen meet the next revolution in the industry. In the future, much greater regard must be paid to natural habitats, biodiversity, CO2 emissions as well as environmental and climate impacts.

In collaboration with DTU Aqua and with support from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Danish MLD ApS has developed the first step in what is well on its way to becoming an international industry standard for trawl fishing.

Remotely operated drones replace dredges for bottom trawl

Since 2015, the engineering company has worked on a replacement for the traditional bottom trawl dredges, which for decades have plowed and destroyed fragile seabed around the world. It has to end now!

With inspiration from the aviation industry, MLD has therefore developed computer-controlled drones that not only keep away from the seabed but also can optimize the spread and distance of the fishing net from the seabed. The drones can also minimize seabed contact and fuel consumption, which benefits the marine environment, the living conditions of fish, and the economics for the master skippers.

Help turn Danish idea into international success

First generation of the system – simply called 'MLD Trawl Steering System' (MLD TSS) – has already been used by skippers in the Faroe Islands. Now it must go worldwide, and here further development is needed, for example intelligent remote control, integration with other onboard instruments, and a more intuitive user interface.

Therefore MLD needs a service engineer who is used to being at sea and who can service MLD's products installed on ships, either while they are at sea or when the ships are in port.

The new colleague will be allowed to create his/her own job within a completely new area and, reporting to the CEO, will have responsibility for servicing MLD's products. This is not only about being imaginative and technically strong, but also about being a good team player with a passion for nature and climate protection.

At MLD you conquer the world together

The organization at MLD is deliberately flat, and the distance to CEO Gregers Baungaard's office is extremely short. It is not far from idea to action, and all employees are allowed to voice concrete ideas and test what could become the next innovative solutions.

For Gregers Baungaard it has been crucial to create a working climate where everyone looks forward to coming back to work again tomorrow. Therefore teamwork with knowledge sharing across disciplines is the focus in daily work, where the tone is friendly, informal and almost homely.

It is the whole team's burning desire to convert Danish innovation into international success. Therefore it is important that, as an employee at MLD, you can operate in fluent English – for example when you work with international colleagues, new customers or with the researchers at DTU Aqua.
