About the job

Aalborg Universitetshospital – Department of Forensic Psychiatry Ward 1, as soon as possible, or by agreement, social- and health care assistant for a 37-hour position in rotating shifts.

We are looking for a colleague who has the will, courage and energy to become part of an engaged, creative and skilled staff group. As a social- and health care assistant in the ward, you will have the opportunity to work with psychiatry in both the acute stabilizing course, but also in the longer rehabilitation courses. In addition, there is plenty of room for you to develop your professional competencies and areas of responsibility over time, within the forensic psychiatry subspecialty.

Forensic psychiatry constitutes a special branch of psychiatry due to its highly specific patient clientele. The target group for Forensic Psychiatric Ward 1 are psychiatric patients with detention orders, orders for psychiatric treatment, and patients admitted for mental observation – either with a ruling for mental examination during hospitalization or as guardianship surrogate placements. Patients are offered care and treatment in relation to their psychiatric diagnosis and any substance abuse, with particular attention to reducing the risk of recidivism to crime.

About the job

We work based on the principles of the contact person function and we view the collaboration between staff and patients as one of our most important tools. The overarching nursing reference framework is Fundamentals of Care. We place a high value on multidisciplinary collaboration, and all professional groups actively contribute with their specific knowledge to the overall patient pathway.

As a social- and health care assistant in Forensic Psychiatric Ward 1, you will have the opportunity to work with psychiatry in longer-term courses. You will be involved in the nursing professional development, e.g. through daily planned reflection forums in the ward.

We work with GAF, milieu therapy, PRO-psychiatry, Guided self-determination and shared documentation.

We also continuously work to prevent coercion, including the use of Safewards and de-escalation as a method. You will receive a thorough introduction to all aspects, and there will be ample opportunity to go in depth with areas of nursing you are particularly interested in, e.g. as part of the ward’s various development groups.

In March 2026 we moved to Hospitalsbyen, where there is a strong focus on implementing new work routines in collaboration with our other ward in forensic psychiatry.

About us

We are a forensic psychiatric ward with a strong focus on learning, professional development and the work environment. We aim that patients admitted to us are involved in planning meaningful nursing of high professional quality. We have a good, safe and secure learning environment where everyone can have a say and contribute with their professional perspective. There is a daily Professional Forum where the content focuses on developing nursing and ensuring treatment quality.

The staff group is broadly composed and includes, in addition to social- and health care assistants, nurses, pedagogues, psychologists, doctors, social workers, occupational therapists and an activities worker. Education of students and trainees is one of the core tasks of Psychiatry, which all employees contribute to.

About you

You are trained as a social- and health care assistant, and in your application we would like to read concrete examples of how:

  • You use your professional skills in collaboration with people with mental disorders who need support.
  • You work in a patient-inclusive manner in your daily work.
  • You as a social- and health care assistant can use your professional skills in the multidisciplinary collaboration in the ward, e.g. with a focus on rehabilitation and involvement in daily activities.
  • You actively and independently assess what you should do in a critical situation, e.g. if someone reacts physically and violently.
  • You can reflect on and explain your professional choices.
  • Others would say that you contribute to a good working environment.

We offer

  • A good and positive working environment based on the values of psychiatry.
  • A high professional quality in nursing and treatment.
