About the job

Student assistant (law student or business law student) to the Statens Serum Institute's Department of Data Protection & Information Security – where law, health and society meet

Would you like to work with data protection law in a context where the rules are not just theory – but a prerequisite for national disease surveillance, health preparedness and groundbreaking research?

At the Statens Serum Institute's Department of Data Protection & Information Security we are looking for a academically strong and curious law student who wants to help translate data protection law into practice in an organization of great societal importance.

Here we operate at the crossroads of GDPR, administrative law, health law and information security – and we are looking for you who want to become wiser, take responsibility and make a difference.

About the position

As a student assistant you will be part of a multidisciplinary environment where lawyers and information security specialists work closely together. You will gain concrete experience with how data protection rules are applied in a complex public organization – and how law balances the individual's rights with society's health.

Your tasks will primarily consist of

  • responding to telephone and written citizen inquiries about data protection-law questions,
  • handling cases concerning data subjects' rights under data protection rules as well as disclosure of personal data,
  • preparing drafts of notes, policies, procedures and materials related to supervision of data processors,
  • contributing to the department's compliance work and updating internal overviews,
  • handling web editorial tasks and updating informational materials.

You will receive thorough training, but also gradually more responsibility. The tasks will be adapted to your competencies and interests, and we prioritize that our student assistants receive varied and development-oriented tasks.

Who are you?

We imagine that you study law or business law (stud.jur. or stud.merc.jur.), and that you

  • Have a genuine interest in data protection law and public regulation
  • Are academically ambitious and curious about how law works in practice
  • Write clearly and precisely – and care about delivering a well-crafted product
  • Work in a structured way and take responsibility for your tasks
  • Thrive in dialogue with both citizens and colleagues
  • Want to actively contribute to a developing department

Experience from a previous student position is an advantage – but not a requirement. The most important is your motivation and your academic commitment.

What do we offer?

  • Practical experience with data protection law in a complex public organization
  • Insight into the interaction between law, research, health preparedness and information security
  • A strong professional environment with dedicated and helpful colleagues
  • An informal tone and a high degree of collaboration
  • A workplace with clear societal significance
