About the job

Do you want to help other students on the teacher education program who need to hear about the studies from an experienced student? Do you have a welcoming attitude, and the ability to listen and communicate? Are you engaged and structured, and do you have an overview? Are you up for participating in various tasks together with the program's management? Then perhaps you are the one we are looking for.

The teacher education program in Odense is seeking a student mentor from the program’s F-year cohorts. As a student mentor you should have the capacity and desire to function as a resource for your fellow students. You should have the willingness and the abilities to take on a very special and different role than teachers and study advisers.

The overall functions of the student mentors

The task as a student mentor is tied to the presence on the program. When one student mentor is on placement, the guidance tasks are handled by the other student mentors in the program, so there remains a visible and accessible guidance function for the students.

Student mentors have, among other things, the following functions

  • Act as a role model
  • Advise on what it is like to be a student on the teacher education program
  • Provide guidance on the educational course, requirements, expectations and opportunities on the program
  • Support and motivate fellow students, e.g., by being available to fellow students who wish to discuss academic, professional, social and personal challenges
  • Contribute to fellow students' well-being, e.g., by giving help, advice and guidance to fellow students with the aim of strengthening well-being in the study
  • Keep fellow students on the program on track
  • Act as a guide and contribute to a fruitful study environment

Concrete tasks for student mentors

  • Participate in the start of studies in collaboration with tutors
  • Collaborate with the instructors on the start of studies
  • Attend Open House three times a year
  • Participate in Study Guidance Fyn once a year
  • Participate in Study Practice once a year
  • Take part in other ad hoc tasks during the program
  • Stay up to date with emails from the program manager
  • Attend meetings with the program manager twice a year
  • Participate in receiving new students who join the program outside the start of studies (e.g., transfers)

Student mentors work closely with other student mentors and the teacher education program's teaching team as well as the program manager. Student mentors are bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.

Qualifications

  • You must be a student on the teacher education program, and it is an advantage if you are in the program's specialization
  • You have an interest in the teacher education program as a whole
  • You have a welcoming attitude and the ability to listen and communicate
  • Relevant experience is an advantage

It is expected that the student participates in a basic course for student mentors.

Remuneration and start
