About the job

Team Leader for Hospitality at Kunsten and Utzon Center

Create exceptional guest experiences at a new level

The guest flow at Kunsten and Utzon Center is high, and everyone – whether tourists, regulars, conference attendees or fifth graders – should feel warmly welcomed and have the best possible experience with Denmark's most beautiful museum.

We are North Jutland's artistic beacon, and a central goal is to attract even more visitors and build long-term relationships with our users, among others through strong and engaged hospitality.

The rising visitor numbers and the external expectations for a museum visit at a high international level require us to take new steps in developing hospitality.

We are seeking a clear and engaged leader who can make our hospitality team of 6 full-time employees and a group of part-time staff succeed in creating good guest experiences in two buildings, so that all guests are met, seen and taken care of – even when it is at full capacity.

The job

You will be the face of the hospitality team outward-facing and hold an important position in the organization of the exhibition houses. As a leader you set the course for delivering excellent service and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. You will be responsible for a team consisting of 6 full-time employees and a corresponding number of part-time substitutes. Kunsten is responsible for hospitality at both Kunsten and Utzon Center, and you report to the head of interpretation and hospitality at Kunsten. You will run hospitality professionally and work closely with the daily manager of Kunsten’s shop.

A substantial part of your working time will be on the floor together with the team, ensuring that everyone receives a quality experience from the moment they step in to the moment they leave us with a “thank you for today and goodbye.” The remainder of the time consists of administration.

In addition to the exhibition houses’ guests, you also care for the artworks and the security around them.

Your core tasks include, among others

  • Responsibility for the daily operations and ongoing development of the hospitality area
  • Leadership of team collaboration and ensuring high information levels, inclusion and well-being
  • Budget and resource management for the area including an overview of shift planning and other administrative tasks in close coordination with the team
  • Handling security procedures, supervision and risk assessment in exhibitions and other public areas

Furthermore you are responsible for

  • Tight coordination with Kunsten’s and Utzon Center’s interpretation and events teams and restaurant managers in connection with renting out museum facilities
  • Ongoing development and optimization of the team’s competencies
  • Ongoing recruitment of substitutes
  • Ensuring a special guest experience, both in daily operations and at larger and smaller events
  • Responsibility for collecting user surveys and strategic use of the knowledge that is built

Your profile

You have proven experience as a people manager, and in developing excellent hospitality from the experiential, cultural or service industry. You have a sharp eye for the whole, are highly quality-conscious and understand that we develop the museum together with respect for the architecture, the art and the audience.

To succeed in the role, you must thrive in a role where pace can sometimes be high, and where visions and practical tasks must go hand in hand. It requires you to also be able to use quiet periods constructively so that we are always sharp and well prepared. You understand that the hospitality team is part of a larger organization where all departments pull together, so you can juggle both delivering the best service to guests and managing the expectations of the other teams in the living and dynamic cultural houses.

As team leader for hospitality you are both clear and inclusive, and you focus on inspiring and engaging your colleagues. In addition you understand the importance of a good working environment and can create structure around the team’s tasks.

We expect that you

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of proven relevant leadership experience from the service industry, for example retail, reception, hotel, culture or similar.
  • Have an overview of your own and the team’s tasks, can delegate and build the team’s competencies
  • Have a pronounced sense of responsibility, overview, orderliness, meticulous, and are typically one step ahead and think independently with a view to the team’s and the museum’s best
  • Love receiving guests and delivering the best possible guest service
  • Have an eye for the commercial aspect
  • Are both self-driven and a team player
  • Address challenges that arise, whether practical or human in nature
  • Have technical aptitude and flair for IT and AV equipment, so you can support both the team and guests
  • Speak Danish and English at a high level and can serve people from around the world and of all ages, both in writing and speech
