About the job

The Rhythmic Folk High School is seeking two new colleagues for a full-time permanent position from January 2027. We are looking for high school teachers with strong musical expertise to join our well-functioning teaching staff, which makes every semester at the school something special.

About The Rhythmic Folk High School

We are Denmark's music folk high school. Since 1991 we have run a folk high school with rhythmic music as the focal point, not because music is the only thing that matters, but because music is the door through which we open the world.

We have 96 students, five study lines and a teaching team that takes both music and folk high school life seriously. The school is located in Vig in Odsherred, an hour's drive from Copenhagen, with forest, beach and practice rooms that never close.

The Rhythmic Folk High School is a high school with a capital H. We are a place where young people live, experience life, make music, fail, try again and discover who they are. Both as people and as musicians.

About the job

We are seeking two high school teachers, and we imagine that they can join teaching teams on two of our study lines:

Live Line is about playing music with others. Here the teaching will cover both ensemble playing and instrument group instruction. In the live line teaching team there is especially a need for candidates who are strong in piano/keys, drums or singing. We want teachers who naturally elevate music teaching from skill acquisition to something that makes sense in a larger context.

Songwriting and Production is about creating music – from idea to finished track. Here you teach songwriting, composition and production. We look forward to hearing where your core strength lies. We want candidates who create, write and/or produce music themselves, and who know how to communicate and inspire others.

In both lines it is essential that you are good at teaching both students who have practiced for many years and beginners. The Rhythmic Folk High School is open to everyone, and students at all levels should experience the same supportive hand in the teaching.

Much more than music teaching

Both positions include much more than teaching in the subject area. There are elective subjects you develop yourself. Boarding school work – house tutor, on-call duties, etc. Shared classes. Lectures. Pedagogical development work, planning and meetings. Tours. Short courses. Evening and weekend work. Conversations with students who need academic or personal support, need good advice, or simply someone to talk to.

All this and much more is the work of a folk high school teacher.

About you

We hire people, not just musicians. Therefore we are looking for team players who want to contribute to the challenging task of running a folk high school.

It would please us if you have experience teaching music. If you can think outside the box, and come up with exciting, alternative ways of teaching music.

That you can communicate in a way that all student types find exciting. That you can think in terms of subjects and programs, not just individual lessons.

It would also please us if you have other interests and talents you would like to tell us about.

To teach at a folk high school you do not need a specific education. You do not need a specific number of years on your résumé. But you must have something to share, both musically and as a person. And you must want to share it all with young people who are ready to be challenged.

A final option: one of the two positions comes with the possibility of moving into the school's available service housing. If you would like to hear more about the house and life at a folk high school when living in service housing, you are welcome to contact us.
