About the job

Do you want to help ensure a well-functioning waste management in Copenhagen – and contribute to achieving our ambitious goals for recycling and reuse?

We are looking for three dedicated caseworkers who want to help realize our goals in the Resource and Waste Strategy 2030. It requires strong operations, good service and a sharp eye for finances to reach the targets. If you are motivated by creating structure and ensuring that waste sorting works in practice for both residents and businesses, then you are the one we are looking for.

About the job and your responsibilities

You will become part of a team that ensures the daily operation of Copenhagen Municipality's waste schemes in close cooperation with, among others, the waste company Amager Resource Center (ARC). The tasks are broad and will include

  • daily operations, administration and follow-up on waste schemes in collaboration with ARC and other actors
  • handling of inquiries from residents and businesses, both by phone and in writing
  • reporting and processing of cases in the professional system Affaldssystem København (ASK)
  • supervision of companies' waste management
  • inspections and visits to the city's courtyards and houses, e.g. regarding waste sorting and capacity adjustments
  • coordination and follow-up with janitors, waste collectors and partners
  • administrative ad hoc tasks and contribute to ensuring that rules and guidelines are followed

You will have a varied day-to-day life with contact to many different people, and it is important that you can communicate clearly, build good relationships and keep track of details – even when it is busy.

About you

You may have a background such as administrative staff, environmental technician, bachelor, academic or experience from a similar administrative position. Familiarity with the waste sector, public administration or operations is an advantage, but not a requirement – we provide thorough training and emphasize that you

  • thrive in operational tasks and can work in a structured and independent manner
  • are service-minded and want to help residents and businesses move forward well
  • can collaborate across disciplines and communicate clearly – both orally and in writing
  • have a flair for IT and a desire to learn new systems, e.g. ASK
  • are adaptable and take responsibility for tasks from start to finish

About us

In the Waste Collection and Commercial Waste unit we are about 70 employees spread across seven teams. We work closely with the ARC and focus on ensuring that the waste schemes operate in everyday life for the city's residents and businesses.

You will join approximately 400 dedicated colleagues in the Climate and Urban Development Department, who are all passionate about making Copenhagen an even better and more sustainable city to live, work and build in. The department has 17 professional units and a secretariat that, with a holistic view, curiosity and high professional standards, solves tasks within waste and resources, climate initiatives, urban planning, social housing, vulnerable city and analyses.

As an employee in Climate and Urban Development you should be willing to participate in collaborations and projects that cross disciplines and professional fields. We believe that good solutions become stronger and more effective when we solve them together – coordinated and across disciplines, units and authorities. We also have a norm of doing things properly – and we do it for Copenhagen.

Employment terms

Salary and employment terms are set in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and qualifications. The positions are 37 hours per week including a lunch break and flexible working with the possibility of up to two days of remote work per week by agreement. The office is centrally located at Njalsgade 13 on Islands Brygge. The positions are intended to be filled by January 1, 2027.

More information

If you want to know more about the positions, you are welcome to contact unit head Maria Bukhave at 23 28 68 80 or unit head Karen Dysted-Morgner at 24 81 64 87.
