About the job
At the Danish Meteorological Institute, we are looking for two full-time assistants who are passionate about translating research into policy advice and engaging in international collaboration, climate policy and strategic work. You will become part of the Office for Weather Scientific Advisory in the Centre for Weather and Ocean Research, where we connect research, policy and practice with the international agenda.
From December 1, 2026, the Danish Meteorological Institute and the Climate Data Agency will be merged into a new agency named DMI, Kort og Grunddata. You will operate in this new agency, which works to provide decision-making basis for the state, municipalities and businesses in a time when climate, security and geopolitics converge.
How will your everyday life look? You will be a central part of DMI, Kort og Grunddatas Centre for Weather and Ocean Research, where your closest colleagues work with different aspects of weather-science advisory and translate research and professional knowledge into societal value. You will have a daily proximity to both researchers and management, and report directly to one of the centre’s two office managers. We are looking for two profiles: one focused on international work and one on weather-science advisory.
Both roles require close collaboration with subject-matter experts and researchers to communicate complex topics in clear language. An important focus is on processes and structure, but there is also room for laughter, learning and new ideas.
For the position with a focus on international work: You help ensure that the agency is well positioned in international networks, organisations and collaborations – both by leading internal coordination and external representation. The daily work is varied, there is some travel, and you will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, other Danish authorities and international partners.
Your tasks will include, among other things
- Coordination of our contributions to international fora such as EUMETSAT, ECMWF, etc.
- Participation in the European network for INTADs (International Advisor to the Director), which continuously follows developments in international organisations and provides input for preparation for, among other things, the annual ICWED meeting, WMO congress, etc.
- Preparation of meeting participation in central bodies such as drafting of commented agendas, holding preparatory meetings with our management and leadership
- Coordination with other government institutions and clarification of mandates, especially with our own ministry in the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities
- To follow developments in relevant international bodies and translate the development into a Danish context
For the position with a focus on weather-science advisory: You have a central role in continuing and developing DMI, Kort og Grunddatas work with weather-science advisory, translating research, data and professional expertise into usable societal information. This includes everything from traditional agency work with the preparation of notes and responses to inquiries to work with events, reports and products that convey the latest knowledge from weather research.
You must be able to understand the technical substance and bridge between specialist knowledge and the political, strategic and societal context in which it will be used.
Your tasks will include, among other things
- Coordination and process responsibility for both external and internal orders, as well as our own proactive advisory products
- Executing case processing and communication in close collaboration with both professional colleagues and management
- Contributing to identifying new advisory products based on the centre’s professional work, and ensuring the link between the overall strategy and concrete initiatives and products
- Facilitation and management support in developing the work with weather-science advisory, including structure and processes for the work
What should you contribute with? We are looking for colleagues who are self-driven, systematic and good at building relationships – and who are not uncomfortable with words like “mandate clarification” and “multilateral fora.” You thrive with both depth and tempo, and a changing everyday life as a link between strategy, policy and professionalism.
We expect that you
- Have a long higher education degree, which can be in both social sciences and natural sciences
- Have experience with the meteorological field
- Have experience from a ministry or agency
- Have relevant experience coordinating international cooperation
- Write and communicate clearly in Danish and especially in English
- Thrive in working independently toward top management, take responsibility and follow up tasks to completion
- Are good at collaborating and building relationships across disciplines and national borders
It would also be advantageous if you have prior knowledge specifically of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities’ area and DMI’s international work.
Why you will be happy working with us At DMI, Kort og Grunddata you will have colleagues with many different backgrounds who are both professionally sharp and personally down-to-earth. We value teamwork, knowledge sharing and a work environment where there is room for diversity. It is allowed to nerd out – and it is also allowed to ask for help when you do not understand something.
We offer, among other things
- Flexible work day with 37-hour work week including lunch
- Possibility of working from home in consideration of task resolution
- Committed working environment with focus on collaboration, learning and diversity
- Your daily work location at Sankt Kjelds Plads 11 in Østerbro – close to public transport
You will be employed in accordance with the AC collective agreement for academics in the state as a full-time civil servant. Your precise placement and any qualification supplement will depend on your experience and competencies.
If you have questions about the position you can contact Rasmus Anker Pedersen, Office Manager for Weather-Scientific Advisory, at email [email protected] or tel. +45 20 46 79 38.
At DMI, diversity is an important value for us, as we believe that an inclusive and diverse work environment strengthens task-solving. We actively work with diversity and therefore encourage everyone to apply for the position – regardless of background, identity or way of thinking.
How to apply If you see yourself as part of DMI, Kort og Grunddata’s Office for Weather-Scientific Advisory and want to work with international collaboration in a professionally strong and informal environment, we would very much like to hear from you.
