About the job
Would you like to help develop and run Arctic Basic Training in Greenland?
Would you like to help build a new military unit in Greenland and at the same time take a central role in the development of Arctic Basic Training? As a Senior Consultant in the New Military Unit you will have the opportunity to shape a new organization, drive independent authority tasks and work closely with both the Defence and Greenlandic partners.
About us
You will become part of New Military Unit , which is being built up in Greenland and structurally anchored under Arctic Command .
New Military Unit is established as part of the continued development and strengthening of the Defence presence and task execution in Greenland. You therefore join at a time when the organization and its tasks are still under development, and where there is an opportunity to help shape both the task solution and the cooperation relations.
You will become part of a new environment with a broad network to both the Defence and Greenlandic authorities, institutions and other partners. At the same time you will be part of Arctic Command and face a daily work life where cross-agency and cross-organization collaboration is a natural part of the task solution.
A significant part of the position is linked to Arctic Basic Training. Arctic Basic Training is a conscription-like training in Greenland, and your work will contribute to supporting the continued development of the training, recruiting to the training and the students’ opportunities to continue their careers in the Defence.
About the position
As a senior consultant you will have a central and independent role in the work with Arctic Basic Training and its continued development .
The position is newly established as part of the buildup. You therefore do not only take on responsibility for continuing existing tasks – you also have the opportunity to help shape how the tasks are organized and solved in the future.
Your primary task will be to ensure coherence between Arctic Basic Training, the Defence’s other training and career opportunities and the needs that continuously arise in connection with the Defence development in Greenland.
You will work closely with among others Arctic Basic Training, the Personnel Command and the Defence Staff, as well as with a number of Greenlandic and Danish partners. This requires that you can both work independently with concrete cases and at the same time see the bigger context.
Your main tasks
You will among other things have responsibility for
- driving the development of Arctic Basic Training , including handling and following up on requests for changes in, for example, the training length, start time and content,
- handling and initiating task requests and initiatives from supervising authorities and political level,
- ensuring coherence between Arctic Basic Training and the Defence’s other training and career opportunities , including following up on students’ opportunities to continue in the Defence after completing Arctic Basic Training,
- coordinating recruitment to Arctic Basic Training , among others with the Personnel Command and Greenlandic educational institutions in connection with trials,
- developing and optimizing the recruitment process , so the Defence can continue to attract qualified applicants from all of Greenland.
An important part of the work with recruitment is to continuously assess how the process can be developed and adapted to the Greenlandic conditions. This can include how we reach out to the settlements, how the testing can be adapted to the target group, and how more potential applicants can become aware of opportunities in Arctic Basic Training.
You will also occasionally need to give presentations and briefings about Arctic Basic Training for both internal and external stakeholders.
The position also includes handling and responding to inquiries from among others prospective and former Arctic Basic Training students, citizens, researchers and others with interest in the training. You will also need to handle and follow up on new collaboration initiatives from external organisations and authorities.
A role with the possibility to set the direction
Because we are in the process of being built up, you will experience that not everything is predetermined in advance. You must therefore be prepared to help develop both solutions, workflows and forms of cooperation.
It also provides an opportunity to have real influence on how a new organization solves its tasks, and how Arctic Basic Training can further support the Defence’s overall task solution in Greenland.
You will have a broad network and work at the intersection of authority tasks, education, recruitment and development. You will have a high degree of independence in task solution, but at the same time be dependent on close cooperation with the many actors who contribute to Arctic Basic Training.
The position does not include direct personnel management.
About you
We are looking for someone who thrives on taking responsibility for a task where not all answers are given in advance.
You have a relevant university-level education and experience with independent case processing, coordination or development tasks. The most important is not which specific organization you come from, but that you can work securely in a complex administrative context and take a task from idea to action.
We particularly emphasize that you
- have experience with independent case processing and coordination and can drive a task forward without the need for close daily supervision,
- can create overview and structure in complex problems and translate them into concrete solutions and decision proposals,
- have good written and oral communication skills and can convey a topic clearly to professionals, leaders and external partners,
- have experience with development and implementation , where different interests and needs must be reconciled,
- thrive with a broad network and can build and maintain good relationships across organizations.
As a person you are independent, structured and persistent. You take responsibility for making things happen and follow up when a task requires multiple actors or steps.
You must also be able to handle that the framework may change. New political initiatives, internal wishes from the Defence or experiences from the practical implementation of Arctic Basic Training may lead to new tasks and Need for adjustments. Therefore it is important that you can both stay the course and be pragmatic when the solution must be found.
It is a clear advantage if you have knowledge of the Defence and/or Greenlandic conditions, but it is not a requirement. The crucial thing is that you want to work on a task where the Defence’s needs must be translated into solutions that work in a Greenlandic context.
Terms of employment
The employment is in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Taxation, DM, the Engineers Association, IDA and the Danish Land Surveyors Association for master’s, engineers and land surveyors in state service in Greenland.
Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is the possibility of negotiating a supplement. There is a employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.
The workplace is in Kangerlussuaq Greenland.
Arctic Command provides housing.
As an employee under the Ministry of Defence’s area you are subject to certain special conditions. You must be able to obtain a security clearance and maintain the clearance for the duration of your employment.
You have as an employee a duty to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.

This entails the ability to handle crises and ultimately to carry out the military defence of Greenland and the Faroe Islands – in cooperation with other national and international headquarters.
