Health insurance card
What does it mean?
The health insurance card (sundhedskort) is proof that you are covered by public health insurance in Denmark. It shows your name, CPR number, address and the general practitioner you are assigned to.
You receive the card by post once you are registered in the CPR register. When you register, you choose a doctor near where you live. The card is also available as an app.
You use the card when you see a doctor, collect medicine at the pharmacy or go to hospital. Doctor visits and hospital treatment are generally covered, while for example dentist visits and medicine are partly paid by yourself.
Special rules may apply for a period after you move here. See lifeindenmark.borger.dk for the current rules.
