Active weekend hours with a 6-year-old boy

Do you have experience with children with ADHD and a need for close support? And can you create clear boundaries and maintain calm when a situation becomes demanding? Then this assignment may be for you.

About the assignment

You will become a regular support for a 6-year-old boy with ADHD. He is caring and talkative and among other things loves football, swimming, walks, LEGO, memory games and activities on his iPad.

The boy has extensive need for support and guidance and needs a staff member close by throughout the entire time together. He can have difficulty concentrating and maintaining attention, and he becomes easily overstimulated and tired. Therefore he needs fixed frames, structure and predictability as well as clear preparation when you switch from one activity to another.

He can be very led by what he wants here and now, and in situations where he becomes frustrated or faces demands, he can react with inappropriate behavior and harsh verbal language. Here your task is to remain calm, be clear and help him regulate himself and move on from the situation without increasing pressure.

The assignment mainly takes place outside the home, so the family gets relief. You go on trips and engage in activities based on the boy's interests, for example swimming or football. You must create a clear and safe framework around the activities and support him closely so he has the opportunity for good experiences and successes.

About you

You can be a pedagogue or have another relevant professional background. You can also be untrained with relevant experience. The crucial thing is that you have experience with children with special needs, preferably ADHD, and are used to situations where a child can react strongly or communicate inappropriate behavior.

You can work calmly and clearly with structure and predictability and understand the importance of preparing transitions and adapting demands and activities to the child's capacity. At the same time you can take responsibility for the time together and maintain safe frames, also when the boy becomes frustrated or overstimulated.

Working hours

The position is 12 hours per month distributed over 3 weekend shifts of 4 hours.

The shifts may be on both Saturday and Sunday. The concrete days and times are agreed with the family.
