About the job

Would you like to help build a central AI team in Technology, Data and Business IT, Mayor's Administration, Odense Municipality?

Odense Municipality has for many years been at the forefront when it comes to automating the municipality's processes. Now we take the next step. We are building an AI team that will develop AI solutions for the municipality's administrations, and we are looking for an experienced developer who wants to be involved from the start.

About the job

You will become one of the first developers in our new AI team and will therefore have a special opportunity to develop concrete AI solutions and help shape how we work with AI in Odense Municipality .

There is no ready-made recipe; we write it together. You will be part of making choices about, among other things, models, hosting, architecture and development methods, as well as building the workflows and technical principles that the team will work after.

You will work closely with professionals from across the municipality to identify tasks where AI can make a real difference for citizens and colleagues. We will move quickly from idea to testing: build prototypes, learn from them and put the solutions into operation when they create value. And we also expect you to honestly say when AI is not the right answer.

Specifically you will, among other things

  • develop, test and deploy AI solutions
  • build prototypes and translate good ideas into solutions that work in practice
  • be involved in choosing models, technologies, architecture and hosting
  • collaborate with the municipality's professional areas to identify and qualify relevant applications of AI
  • help create technical principles and good development practices for the new AI team
  • assess both opportunities and limitations of AI and contribute to using the technology where it makes sense.

About us

The AI team is new, so you will be part of the building from the start and will work closely with an experienced AI developer on the technical setup. Here you have the opportunity to influence both the team and our way of working with AI.

You will become part of the Data, Technology and Business-IT staff in the Mayor's Administration. Here you will have a strong professional environment behind you, built on many years of experience with data, technology, automation and digital development. You will have colleagues and sparring partners across, among other things, RPA, backend development, process development, law and information security.

The AI team is attached to the Office for Data, Inclusion and Technology, where we develop digital solutions for both citizens and employees and work to make the municipality's processes simpler and more efficient.

About you

We expect that you

  • have several years of experience in software development, preferably in Python
  • have built and operated solutions in production, not just demos
  • have practical experience with LLMs and know how to test whether a solution actually works
  • use AI code tools like Claude Code, Codex, Pi.Dev or similar in your daily work
  • communicate well with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • are curious about other disciplines and motivated to find solutions together with them

We would be happy if you also know

  • Linux administration
  • Postgres, preferably with pgvector
  • RAG, tool calling and MCP
  • integrations via REST and SOAP
  • Docker and CI/CD
  • FastAPI, Pydantic and the Pydantic-Ai packages in Python
  • work in the public sector

We offer

  • Opportunity to influence a new team and its technical direction from day one
  • Tasks that make a difference for over 210,000 citizens and colleagues across the municipality
  • A daily life with great freedom to plan tasks and approach
  • Interesting, engaged and nice colleagues
  • Possibility of remote work, flexible holiday, the child’s 1st and 2nd sick day and a health scheme
  • Salary according to collective agreement and a good pension

Salary and employment terms

The position is paid according to the applicable collective agreement. The expected salary level is communicated before any interview and depends on experience and qualifications.
