Expected start date and duration of employment

This 2-year full-time position is expected to be filled by 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible.

Job description

We are hiring an Academic Employee for Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) and GEM/Geobasis activities at the Zackenberg Research Station. You will oversee all aspects of operations, including:

  • Maintenance and supervision of eddy covariance stations and other monitoring stations in the field.

You will also go on extended field trips to harsh, remote locations in Northeast Greenland.

Your profile

You have a master's degree in Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Geophysics, or a similar field.

Experience in fieldwork, maintaining advanced measurement systems, and handling large datasets is required. Practical experience with eddy covariance systems and data loggers, and prior knowledge of ICOS standards and protocols, are an advantage. Experience with GIS software and programming languages such as Python or R is also a strong asset.

We encourage everyone interested to apply, regardless of background. We want to hire the best qualified candidate and will consider a broad range of competencies relevant to every part of the position, with a focus on collaborative skills.

Who we are

The Department of Ecoscience is project-based and does research, talent development, and consultancy across all major biological sub-disciplines. Our research areas include ecosystem ecology (including Arctic environments and ecosystems), aquatic biology and ecology, and biodiversity and conservation biology. The Department currently employs approximately 280 academic and technical staff.

The Department has a strong position in international biodiversity, nature, and environmental research and is a national leader in research-based consultancy in both Denmark and Greenland. Our research examines how ecological framework conditions, historical conditions, natural processes, and human-caused changes in nature and the environment affect surrounding nature.

We study the underlying ecological and geographical mechanisms and human impact on biodiversity and ecosystems, with particular attention to how current climate change and other global human-caused environmental changes affect nature and biodiversity.

The Department is a leading adviser to the Danish and Greenlandic authorities on environmental issues. It also leads the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) programme, which focuses on the effects of climate change on Arctic ecosystems. The Zackenberg Research Station is one of GEM's central research sites.

What we offer

We offer a 2-year position to safeguard our greenhouse gas flux monitoring at Zackenberg in Northeast Greenland National Park. You will join the ICOS and Geobasis teams and the research community at Zackenberg.

The Department of Ecoscience offers an informal research environment and has a long tradition of collaborating with leading international university partners. The working environment is built on teamwork and close working relationships, with established professional and social networks for young scientists.
