About the job

The final touch is being put on Dorotheas Have, Kolding's new nursing home for residents with dementia. We are in the process of building our new management team, and if you would like to build on a foundation of warmth, curiosity, and high professional standards, you could be our new group leader.

Dorotheas Have will become a new home for 70 residents and 55 day care users with a dementia disease.

By name, Dorotheas Have is a nursing home – in function, we are a home where, as employees, we are guests of the residents and therefore respect the life and daily routine they wish to lead. It is us who adapt to them, not the other way around.

As group leader, you must be able to support this self-determination and the principle that everyone is seen, heard, and understood. Being able to create relationships with residents and their relatives, as well as a system that can accommodate people who have a long and meaningful life history behind them, is very important for Dorotheas Have.

We offer a flexible workplace with broad frames, where you

  • have the freedom to express your own professional skills and leadership abilities
  • become part of a community that wishes the best for both residents and each other,
  • will have a daily life where you use both your brain and your heart
  • will have the opportunity to try new methods while we together figure out what it means to be a good home for citizens with dementia
  • are a good partner for, among others, relatives and staff.
  • are part of creating that we prioritize meaning over routine.

Knowledge of and experience with dementia diseases is an advantage but not a requirement – however, it is required that you have the interest and desire to familiarize yourself with a daily life with dementia, both for residents and their relatives.

Be part of building a new culture from the ground up

Dorotheas Have stands before a unique opportunity to build the culture from the ground up in a unified community. Becoming part of a team is something that takes time and something we must learn together – it is a process in which we expect you to want to take a leading role.

You must be able to see culture as something that is always in motion – then you must always keep an eye on which direction the culture is moving and whether it is a positive development.

To work at Dorotheas Have you must also be prepared to want to work on yourself and develop together with your colleagues and be willing to look inward and in general learn more about yourself.

It is a goal for Dorotheas Have that we build an environment where we as people are important too, and where all employees can make decisions within clear frames. That is what gives employees the freedom to work with professional and personal competencies and achieve personal satisfaction through their work.

As group leader, it will be your responsibility to help build these frames and listen to your employees so you can collectively find a solution through dialogue.

Collaboration in focus

You will work in a close management team, which besides the nursing home manager also includes the kitchen manager, the group leader, and the team leader in the day care Herkules, which moves in with Dorotheas Have.

Everyone at Dorotheas Have must be able to collaborate for us to succeed as a good home for residents with dementia; that means you must be prepared to engage in broad collaboration, spanning from the management team, your staff, residents, volunteers, partners, and all the way to the residents' relatives.

We will work in a flat hierarchy where everyone is encouraged to contribute to the tasks they know they have the skills for – including you, even though these are not always tasks that traditionally would fall to a group leader. It is through this collaboration, where we understand both our own and each other's strengths, that we can truly make each other better and work together to develop.

Your role as group leader

As a group leader with us you will have a key role, balancing daily leadership of about 40 staff, action plans and finances with a strong human presence towards staff, residents, and relatives.

You lead with both direction and heart. You communicate clearly and maintain an overview in an unpredictable daily life, while meeting staff, residents, and relatives with great inclusiveness.

You manage to balance your time between administrative office work and the daily life in the building. By ensuring a positive working environment for your team, you enable them to deliver care and assistance of the highest quality.

Your primary tasks and daily life are

  • Present personnel management: You handle the day-to-day management of your approximately 40 staff. You participate in, for example, TOBS meetings with clear communication and continuously spar with your staff. You coordinate with the rest of the house and make the everyday life succeed.
  • Relatives collaboration: You warmly welcome relatives in emotionally difficult situations and offer the necessary support.
  • Employee conversations: You handle the annual MUS conversations with your staff and you plan and conduct sickness absence conversations with staff together with the nursing home manager. You have ongoing welfare conversations with your staff which you also support in difficult resident situations and promote their development potential

We are looking for you who

  • can lead with both direction and heart. You communicate clearly and maintain an overview in an unpredictable daily life, while you meet staff, residents and relatives with great inclusiveness,
  • can put the person before the disease. You are passionate about the dementia field, and to you no one is just a name on a piece of paper. You see the whole person – both on good and difficult days.
  • have a solid professional foundation. Your health professional background or experience from the elderly, social, or health field naturally allows you to apply professionalism, well-being, and development.
  • are present and dare to have difficult conversations. You take responsibility, follow up and spar closely with your management team.
  • believe in Self-worth and Coherence. You guide your staff in our shared vision, but are also ready to listen and be adjusted if you yourself go off course.

You will have days where you are a strategist who is a master of calendar gymnastics and plans everything, and days where you must interpret others’ plans; therefore it is important that you are ready to step into a role where you work with multiple hats – and especially with the yes-hat.

You will have to give and receive feedback on your leadership tasks and leadership style, but although your leadership competencies are important, you are also hired as a whole person, not just as a CV.

Therefore your personality matters very much in daily life, and we hope you can set a good example by bringing your own interests into the house; for example, if you are an adept knitter, or you practice yoga, bring the knitting or the yoga mat to work – it helps create life and good moments for residents and a sense of togetherness among the staff.

Senior, Health and Leisure Administration

You will be employed in the Senior, Health and Leisure Administration, where we work with Bürger Center based on our strategy: Self-worth and Coherence in everything we say and do. We approach things with curiosity to do as much as possible that is meaningful for the citizen.

In Kolding Municipality we work with the vision of Self-worth and Coherence, and this forms the core of Dorotheas Have's work; self-worth means that citizens experience dignity and 'the ability to do things themselves', and coherence in the support we provide to the citizen – in other words, we can provide citizens with success experiences in a way that makes sense to them. You can read more about the vision of Self-worth and Coherence here .
