About the job

At Birkerød School, we are undergoing an exciting development where we will have more adults in the individual team. This is to strengthen the students' academic curiosity and outcomes as well as create more opportunities for participation.

In lower secondary, we especially want to strengthen the mathematics and science subjects.

Therefore we are looking for a teacher who is passionate about setting the framework for students' encounter with mathematics and physics (and possibly the other natural sciences), and who has calm and secure classroom management and the ability to create different entry points for working with the material. This will be done in collaboration with the other teachers around the year group.

Our lower secondary runs from 6th to 9th grade. We have three classes in each year, and the teaching is parallel, so we can do cross-year group grouping. The year-team collaborates on annual plans, preparation, implementation and follow-up of teaching. The teaching teams in lower secondary are divided into two tracks, each mainly linked to two year groups.

We attach high importance to collaboration in the professional learning communities (PLF teams) and value that no one should be left alone with a task.

Your profile

  • You are trained as a teacher
  • You have major subjects in mathematics and physics - preferably more natural sciences and/or technology understanding
  • You have strong relationship skills and focus on students' well-being and learning and differentiation
  • You are skilled in classroom management
  • You thrive in collaboration and are keen to share practice and develop together with your colleagues

Why choose Birkerød School

  • You will become part of a strong community where engagement and professionalism are key words. Our teams work as Professional Learning Communities (PLFs) with a focus on students' learning and well-being.
  • The class teacher role and mentor task are shared between two teachers who together lead the work around the class.
  • You will be employed at a school characterized by a high degree of collaboration and openness among colleagues. We help each other and ensure that no one stands alone.
  • We have a digital profile that ensures we constantly work with how digital technology can support curiosity, learning, motivation and collaboration as well as provide variation in teaching.
  • There is a really good atmosphere and good mood here.
  • We have good visual and physical facilities.
  • We have an onboarding plan, which means that whether you are an experienced teacher or a newly graduated one, you will receive a warm welcome and a solid, secure start.
  • The school has about 730 students and is located in a central spot in Rudersdal Municipality, close to S-train/public transport (less than half an hour from Copenhagen)

The school's focus areas next year align with the municipal focus on participation opportunities for all, high academic standards and progression as well as well-being. We are committed to every child succeeding in and contributing to the communities they belong to.

We believe that all children do the right thing if they can. We want all children to succeed in the group. Therefore the students' experience of the school and teaching is an important element of our work. We are also focused on students contributing and participating in the communities with the understanding that they are co-creators of each other's good school day, school and learning environment.

In the PLFs, we are thus concerned with developing our own practice in relation to how we can adjust teaching, classroom management and frameworks to the benefit of the students.
