About the job

Juliane Marie Centret

Do you want to be an expert for some of Denmark's smallest patients?

At the Department of Intensive Care Treatment for Newborns and Small Children (GN) at Rigshospitalet we are looking for a bioanalyst who wants to make a decisive difference for newborns and small children with some of the country’s most complex and serious illnesses.

With us, blood sampling is not just a technical task.

It is a highly specialized function where professionalism, precision, calm, and human understanding go hand in hand.

When you take a blood sample from a critically ill infant, you directly contribute to the clinical decisions that shape the child’s further treatment. At the same time, you meet parents in some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Therefore we are looking for a bioanalyst who both possesses high professional quality and the ability to create security and trust.

If you are passionate about working with children and families, and if you are motivated to become truly excellent at something that only a few bioanalysts in Denmark master, we would love to hear from you.

A Special Bioanalyst Function

The position differs from many other bioanalyst roles.

Most of your working day takes place close to patients and families, not behind the laboratory walls.

Your main task will be blood sampling on newborns and small children, both capillary, venous, and via central catheters. It requires meticulousness, safe handling, patience, and great respect for both the child and the family.

We are therefore looking for a colleague who sees sampling as a core task and who wants to develop and maintain a highly specialized competence within this area.

Analytical work remains an important part of the role, but the patient-focused contact and collaboration with children and families will be the most significant part of your work.

You will be part of a small expert team

You will be part of a group of three bioanalysts with extensive experience in sampling on newborns and small children.

We know each other well, help each other, and share our experiences. The team works with a high degree of independence, high professional quality and close sparring in everyday life.

We know that it takes something special to work with this patient group, and therefore we prioritize thorough training, professional development, and a work environment characterized by mutual respect, helpfulness, and psychological safety.

Close Collaboration with the Clinical Biochemical Department

Although you will be part of GN, you do not work alone.

We have a close and well-functioning collaboration with the Clinical Biochemical Department at Rigshospitalet regarding blood sampling, analytical work, quality assurance, and professional sparring.

You will therefore be part of both a local specialist team and one of the country’s strongest bioanalytical environments.

About the department

GN is Denmark's most specialized department for intensive care treatment of newborns and small children.

We treat among other things

  • Extremely premature infants
  • Children with congenital heart disease
  • Children with surgical conditions
  • Children with neurological diseases
  • Children with respiratory and circulatory failure
  • Children with rare diseases and syndromes
  • Children requiring ECMO treatment and other advanced intensive care

We work from family-centered principles, where parents are a natural part of the child’s treatment and care.

Become part of the hospital of the future for children

In early 2028, the department will move to Mary Elizabeths Hospital.

As a bioanalyst with us you therefore get a unique opportunity not only to become part of a highly specialized field but also to help shape the future laboratory function in a hospital built specifically for children, young people and families.

For the right candidate this is a unique opportunity to leave your mark on one of Denmark's most ambitious hospital projects.

We are looking for you who

  • Are a licensed bioanalyst
  • Have experience with blood sampling on newborns and/or small children
  • Work carefully, structured and independently
  • Have high professional quality and a sense of responsibility
  • Thrive in an environment with complex patient pathways
  • Are calm and welcoming in encounters with children and families
  • Contribute positively to collaboration with colleagues and partners
  • Are eager for continued professional development

We offer

  • A unique specialist function within sampling on newborns and small children
  • A high degree of professional responsibility and independence
  • A small and experienced bioanalyst team
  • Close collaboration with the Clinical Biochemical Department
  • Thorough onboarding
  • An work environment characterized by high professionalism and psychological safety
  • Opportunity to participate in quality and development projects
  • Opportunity to influence the development toward Mary Elizabeths Hospital

Working hours

The position is 30-32 hours per week.

The working hours are day hours from 07:00 to 13:00

In addition

  • Weekend shifts every 3rd weekend
  • Public holiday coverage distributed among the department’s three bioanalysts

Management

You report to the department’s chief nurses and become part of a department where bioanalysts, nurses, physicians, and secretaries work closely together to create the best possible pathways for the children and their families.
