Become a social and health care helper trainee – 17-week merit program

Do you have experience in care and nursing and dream of becoming a trained social and health care helper?

If you have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience and are over 25 years old , you can take the training to become a social and health care helper in just 17 weeks .

Who can apply?

To be admitted to the 17-week merit program you must document at least 2 years of relevant work experience within the last 4 years .

Your experience should be from, for example

• home care
• care center
• the disability sector, where you have worked with personal care.

The experience must be gained under FOA's collective agreement.

It is a requirement that you can document experience

• from multiple shifts with a main emphasis on day shifts
• with substantial experience in care and nursing tasks
• from job roles where you have been part of a team
• from job roles where you have engaged in professional sparring.

The work experience must be obtained within the last 4 years prior to the start of the training.

How the training works

The program lasts 17 weeks and starts the main program in week 12 2027 .

You receive credit for the on-the-job training based on your work experience and therefore do not need an ordinary apprenticeship period.

Before the start of the training you must have carried out a real competence assessment (RKV) . The RKV assesses your competences and your documented work experience and can form the basis for credit on the training.

The school period takes place at the Social and Health School in Aabenraa .

• wants to develop your professional competences
• meets citizens with respect, empathy and care
• can take responsibility for your education
• can collaborate with citizens, relatives, colleagues and other professional groups
• is reliable and engaged in your work.

You already have experience from practice. Now you get the opportunity to build professional knowledge and an education on top.

Admission and application

When you apply, you must attach

• documentation of at least 2 years of relevant work experience
• the primary school leaving certificate and any other educational certificates
• documentation for first aid and basic fire safety if you have certificates
• residence and work permit if you come from a country outside the EU/Schengen
• private criminal record
• CV and any references
• other relevant documentation.

Remember that your work experience must be documented with an employer’s declaration or other relevant documentation.

• You apply for the training agreement with Tønder Municipality by sending your application, CV and relevant attachments via the application link.
• You should also contact SOSU Syd to have an RKV performed.

Start is in week 12 2027 and the application deadline is 24 January 2027

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
