About the job

The position is a maternity leave cover of 37 hours per week starting January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter

Who are we?

De Fire Birke is a special institution located at Rymarksvej 5, 2900 Hellerup. The facility's opening hours are from 7:15 to 16:15.

We are staffed for 51 children aged 0-6 years. The children’s group includes children with multiple disabilities and extensive motor, sensory and communicative challenges. We work, among other things, with children within the autism spectrum, rare syndromes, genetic defects, cerebral palsy and prematurity. What they all have in common is that they need massive support in daily life. In close collaboration with the parents, we offer the children a calm and flexible environment, where an appreciative approach and the use of alternative communication methods are at the forefront.

The staff group includes pedagogues, classroom assistants, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, kitchen staff and a handyman.

De Fire Birke is part of Specialklyngen in the City of Copenhagen. Specialklyngen consists of eight special day-care offers for children aged 0-6 years. The institutions are spread across the City of Copenhagen. Specialklyngen's core task is to create frameworks so that children with special needs have the best possible opportunities for wellbeing, development and learning to master life. This is done in collaboration with the children's parents.

As a therapist in Specialklyngen you will become part of a larger network consisting of 22 physiotherapists and occupational therapists. We meet about five times a year for professional presentations and sparring. You will have influence and opportunities for competence development at the shared network meetings. In due course there is also the possibility to stand for election as a trusted and health-and-safety representative.

Everyday life as a physiotherapist

In De Fire Birke you will become part of a therapy team with two occupational therapists and three physiotherapists. You will work with the children, among other things, through gross motor training, motor-challenging play, ”seahorse feeding”, sensory stimulation, arousal regulation and neurodynamics. The aim is particularly to improve the child’s activity level, ability to self-regulate, ability to express themselves and participate in social interaction.

In practice you will work with the children in programs either alone or in collaboration with other professional groups. You must therefore be able to prioritise your tasks and implement projects in a pedagogical daily life in collaboration with the educational staff. Your core task consists of analysing and clarifying both verbally and in writing the individual child’s competences, challenges and potentials. On this basis a individually tailored and meaningful training program is planned and carried out with focus on the child’s independence, sensory integration, motor development and mental health.

In connection with operations or further investigations there may be a need for your professional assessment in dialogue with hospitals, as well as you will manage the child’s rehabilitation according to the rehabilitation plan. There is also the possibility to establish smaller groups, where children are matched across rooms for example swimming and motor skills groups.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

We work from the belief that with an interdisciplinary effort we come the furthest. Therefore we share and learn from each other across professions. In addition to the daily collaboration with pedagogues, the interdisciplinary effort also takes place in dialogue with, among others, psychologists, bandagists as well as fixed affiliated speech-hearing consultants. In addition, we are offered ongoing supervision where we discuss everyday challenges.

We are looking for a physiotherapist who

  • has experience with pediatric physiotherapy
  • would preferably have experience or knowledge of discipline-specific treatment methods e.g. seahorse feeding, sensory integration and neurodynamics
  • can relay and instruct parents and colleagues in the physiotherapeutic interventions both verbally and in writing
  • can advise and guide in the use of aids e.g. special chairs, mobility devices and body-worn aids
  • works independently, takes responsibility and is adaptable
  • actively participates in interdisciplinary collaboration with several professional groups
  • has an interest in the special pedagogical approach
  • can perform written documentation and record-keeping
  • would preferably have knowledge of and interest in alternative communication forms including Sign Language and PECS
  • has a playful approach to physiotherapy
  • is curious, proactive and willing to try relevant interventions

In addition we place emphasis on our future physiotherapist being loyal and approachable in collaboration with parents, colleagues and the cluster’s management team.

What can we offer you?

  • mono- and multi-disciplinary sparring across the cluster’s institutions
  • a mentorship arrangement, where you as a new employee will be attached to a physiotherapist at another institution and have the opportunity for mono-disciplinary sparring as needed
  • interdisciplinary learning, development and collaboration
  • a positive and egalitarian working community
  • shared responsibility and influence
  • clear leadership and communication

Salary and employment terms

Salary and employment terms according to the applicable agreement with the City of Copenhagen and within the framework of local pay formation. In connection with the employment we will obtain references as well as criminal and child protection checks.

You will be employed in Specialklyngen under the Center for Young People and Special. We are happy to work across institutions in our working community, and we expect and give room for everyone in the cluster to seek influence and take shared responsibility.
